Obama Slighted

The Obama Administration is now so popular that Rio De Janiero gets the nod for the 2016 Olympics.  This is just one more slight to Obama who is trying so hard to get the world to like us.  And we thought CHICAGO politics were crooked and corrupt!  Those pikers in the windy city can't hold a candle to the pros in the I.O.C.

CCCP?

Los Angeles 6/25/09

We know what "CCCP" means. That’s what the old Soviets put on their rockets: "CCCP."

In those days it meant USSR in Cyrillic lettering.

It is what we now have in Washington: "CCCP"

DHS Warns About Right Wing

Los Angeles 4/14/09

The Dept of Homeland Security puts out a warning about "Right Wing Extremists" because some "right winger" murders 3 cops in Pittsburgh.

Wasn't it a left winger in Oakland who killed FOUR cops?  Of course he was black and just an ordinary criminal, I guess.

Why no bulletin about "Left Wing Extremists?"

Where is McCain now?

Los Angeles 4/6/09

McCain stood in the way of conservative initiatives with his gang of fourteen liberal Republicans and "moderate" Democrats.  Why can't he gather the same bunch to stop the leftward move to the precipice of socialist catastrophe?   He wants the same thing.  That is why he is associated with the most anti-Reaganite Democrat schemes.  Think McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman.   Why did the Republicans in the Senate not filibuster?  They are McCain clones.

Why not Lehman Brothers?

Los Angeles 4/6/09

Goldman Sachs and so many banks have been bailed out of the toxic mortgage crisis.  Why not Lehman Brothers?  The simple reason is that Lehman had no big chunks of union pension money.  Goldman and others are big holders of union funds.

Why not Ford?  Ford is the least beholden to its unions for its continued existence.  It has a long history of being the least under the thumb of the UAW.  It, therefore is not particularly afraid of a reorganization in bankruptcy.  Ford may even welcome it.

Follow the money to Detroit.  UAW and other union money deposits will dictate who and what the Democrat administration will bail out.

Mount More Rush

Los Angeles 4/1/09

I must dispel a rumor heard on the street.  The Democrat apparatchiks are attacking Rush Limbaugh at every turn as being irrelevant and destroying the Republicans.  Why do they attack him if he is destroying Republicans.

There is no truth to the buzz to change the name of our Black Hills National Monument from Mt. Rushmore to Mt. More Rush.

This rumor must be consigned to the ash heap of history, the same as the movement to place a bust of Ronaldus Magnus on the mountain.

One Voice in the Wilderness

Los Angeles 3/29/09

British Member of Parliament, Daniel Hannan actually understands the economic problems facing the world.  He stood up to address the Chamber and gave a speech that is now on you-tube.  Would that our own politicians were so brave.  See for yourself what Dan has to say (Hear! Hear!)

Why Not Bankruptcy?

Los Angeles 1/1/09

Over and over I have written in these pages that the government seems to be doing everything under the sun that is NOT in the Constitution.  You are also familiar with the fact that I have been railing on and on that the Federal government has been botching or not doing at all, the things that are specifically required of it by the Constitution.

The Constitution says that the Federal Government shall protect us from invasion.  The flow of illegals from the south is about to overwhelm us.  Fine job, Federal Government.

Another of the Federal Government's jobs is to establish post offices and post roads.  The Post Office is now a private entity and a shambles, while our roads and bridges are disintegrating, and our canals and other infrastructure are collapsing while the money is being spent on fruit fly museums and bike paths.  Great job guys.

Patents and copyrights are established to give their owners exclusive rights FOR A LIMITED TIME, yet they have been extended virtually forever.  75 years beyond the death of the creator, in the case of copyright.  Great job, guys.

This whole issue of bailouts was preempted by the Constitutional provision of BANKRUPTCY.  Free of politics, a judge-appointed receiver would help the creditors work it out.  Everybody would share in taking the hit.  And the taxpayers would be left alone.  The "hittees" would then take their losses on their tax forms and that would be that.  All the existing contracts would be negated and the balances would be distributed to creditors.  That would be that.  No extra bonuses.  No high salaries and "golden parachutes."  Everybody would share in the short term pain, and that would be that.

The investors worldwide would bite the bullet.  The Feds say that they can't let any of these pie in the sky derivative schemes fail because lenders to the US would lose confidence.  WHY NOT?  THESE ARE SOPHISTICATED INVESTORS.  They had ample opportunity to assess the risk.  If the risks were hidden, that is fraud, and there are civil criminal remedies and sanctions to deal with that.

Just exactly whose bonds are they going to buy?  China's?  Russia's?  Yeah, RIGHT.

An Obamanation to the World?

Los Angeles 11/11/08

The results are in.  Barack Hussein Obama will be the 44th President of the United States of America, and the stock market continues dropping like a stone.  We need only hope that America's enemies can be patient until January 20 before they try testing and pushing and attacking U.S. interests at home and abroad.

The press is now saying that Obama will govern from the center, because he is a pragmatist.  They have no basis to make such a statement, because they never pinned him down or investigated how he REALLY thinks about things.  The "Center" gets moved farther to the left with each passing year and each passing election.  This year the Press got its way.  It got an ultra-left-wing Democratic candidate and a favorite son Republican candidate.  Now that McCain has lost, they are heralding the death throes of the Republican Party and returning the fighter pilot to the pantheon of Senators like Kennedy, Feingold, and Lieberman who joined in McCain's anti-Republican bi-partisanship.

If McCain or anyone else thinks that the Dems will rule from the center, they had better take another look.  With likes of Pilosi and Reed in charge we can look forward to bipartisan compromise on:

bulletAbortion on demand
bulletHomosexual marriage
bulletDriver's licenses for illegal aliens
bulletAmnesty for illegal aliens
bulletMuch weaker security for Americans at home and abroad
bulletHigher taxes
bulletCrippling of the Coal industry and base load electric power
bulletCrippling of the Petroleum Industry
bulletTaxing out of existence unpleasant businesses like tobacco.
bulletTaxing and hobbling success and rewarding failure.
bulletInitiating a European Value Added Tax (VAT).
bulletIncreased funding for every left wing loony corrupt cause (like ACORN)
bulletBoondoggle after boondoggle for favored groups like trial lawyers and unions
bulletEnding of secret ballots in union elections
bulletNationalizing of businesses
bulletSocialized medicine
bulletThe fairness doctrine and equal time requirements for unfavorable media
bulletNationalizing our IRA and Keogh plans
bulletContinued hamstringing of all our treasured freedoms in the name of political correctness, and saving Earth from global climate change.
bulletMaking sure that our security efforts are equally applied so that knitting needle wielding little old grandmothers are given the same scrutiny as 20-year-old one-way-flying, cash paying, unemployed, Arab males
bulletMaking sure that no photos of bikini-clad girlfriends or wives are posted in workplaces.
bulletInstalling the FAT POLICE, and other Jack-booted thugs.
bulletContinued destruction of low income families by institutional slavery.
bulletTilting the legal system to the disadvantaged side, as policy.
bulletMore gun control (and I don't mean better aim).

That is not to say that McCain would have been that much less worrisome.  Barry Goldwater called it an echo.  The only Conservative voice heard after the Republican primaries was that of a little gal from Alaska, and now the partisans from the Democrats as well as the McCain campaign are doing their best to trash HER.

The McCain wags are now saying that his choice of Sarah Palin was what cost him the election when any sentient being in the Universe could see that his campaign was by far more doomed without her.

Again in the Presidential election of 2012, it will be time for Barry Goldwater's "Choice not an echo!"

2008 ELECTION (The Taming of a Shrew)

A two year senator stalking horse

To fall before the Clintons of course.

She thought she had the race all won.

Then along came the Kenyan’s son

This man, Barack Hussein Obama

The guy’s even liked in South Alabama!

Republicans thought "the more the merrier."

We’ll gang up on Clinton, one solid barrier.

McCain lifted off like an F-4 from a carrier

For the conservatives, it couldn’t get scarier.

They’ll sit on their hands, with this bitter pill.

Forcing Obama right as they did with Bill.

Obama as Symbol!

Los Angeles 11/10/08

Much of any President's administration is symbolic.  He is Commander in Chief, the Head of the Executive Branch, Head of his Party, and America's Head of State.  In some of these areas Obama, is a good example.  Principally, he embodies the uniquely American ideal that ANYBODY can be President.  This is an important statement to the world.  It also will show to the world that America is unique in the world as a bastion of freedom and a beacon of liberty and opportunity.

Los Angeles 11/1/08

On Proposition 8 in California

There is a battle to amend the California State Constitution in the following way, to add the wording:  Only marriage between one man and one woman will be recognized or valid in the State of California.  That's it.

Fundamental rights are not created by liberal schemes and one-vote majorities on a court.  Even SLAVERY had to be brought down by a Constitutional Amendment and not the vote of a court.

Liberal Jerry (Governor Moonbeam) Brown wrote the proposition title to make it look like it takes rights away.  The liberal majority on the State Supreme Court refused to stay gay marriage until the question was voted on and decided by the people.

The proposition does not influence schools, yet the Teachers Union is spending millions to bring it down.  Every liberal leaning left wing special interest group is spending lots of money to fight Prop. 8.

Finally, all the liberal left-wingers say that to be against gay marriage is to discriminate.  They would change thousands of years of history and tradition.  The fact is that any person of any sex, race creed, color or sexual orientation, is not allowed to marry a person of the same sex, or minors, or multiples.  THAT is equality and equal protection.

Thought for the year - 2008

Cavalrymen make better Presidents than fighter pilots.

Examples:  Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan = Cavalrymen

Bush I and Bush II and McCain = Fighter Pilots

Thank heavens.  There's one amateur running on the National Tickets.

Wall Street Needs a Bailout!  Yeah, Right!

Los Angeles 9/15/08

The Wall Street bailout scheme is just a way to enrich House and Senate contributing rich buddies on Wall Street to the detriment of the citizens of America. Fannie and Freddie were dealt with, Lehman, Wamu, and Wachovia, were all dealt with. Buffett stepped up, as JP Morgan did in 1874. We do not need this bailout. Both houses of Congress should vote against it.

Japan's recession of the 1990's is still going on because the government intervened and would not let the failures and shaking out happen. Don't let that happen here. Do not penalize success with over taxation and regulation while rewarding malfeasance and failure. It will bring down America.

Why don't the guys on Wall Street get prosecuted or hauled into courts for their breach of fiduciary duty?  Even one third of Barney Franks' own committee voted against the Bailout on the first ballot. That shows that it was a bad plan then, and it is even more of a bad plan now with all the pork added.

A couple of years ago Diane Watson was praising her big contributors at Fannie and Freddie for the sub-prime lending to encourage home ownership among those who could not afford it and the encouragement of sub prime lending that drove up housing prices and precipitated this "crisis" in liquidity, all of congress and the appointed heads of Fannie and Freddie should be handed over to an angry mob to be dealt with.

No wind power farms off Hyannis Port.

Los Angeles 9/11/08

The opposition of the Kennedy Family to building a power generating wind farm off their precious beach is now understandable.  It would take a good sailor to navigate around the big wind turbines that are proposed.  Teddy Kennedy would be too drunk to do it.  He might not even see them, or  maybe he'd see too many of them.  We know he couldn't navigate a car over a narrow bridge.

Obama Adds Apostrophe

Los Angeles 8/1/08

In a flagrant bid to court the Irish (and Black Irish) vote,  Barack Hussein Obama has added an apostrophe to his name.  He will be shown in print as Barry O'Bama.  Note that O'Bama hopes to court dissident Conservatives by using the "Barry" appellation.

This just in:  In another stunning show of innovation and leadership, Barry O'Bama has decided to Semiticize his name by spelling it "Baruch."

This just crossed the tape.  Baruch O'Bama, to encourage Southern U.S. voters, particularly those in Mobile and Montgomery, has decided to drop the "O."  He will henceforth be known as Barry 'Bama.

 On the Election

Los Angeles 10/3/08 (revised).

It is interesting to see how this election is panning out.

We know that McCain is a vindictive hot-head as he has shown in the Senate by being linked to the most anti-Republican and anti-American bills. It was he who came up with the Gang of 14 gambit that ceded power to Democrats.

McCain-Feingold (Unconstitutional restrictions on Political Speech)

McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty for illegal aliens, beaten back the first time)

McCain-Lieberman (The anti-American and pro-China global warming issue).

It seems that Republicans play better defense than offense in the game of politics. Look how they pushed Billary to rule as a middle of the road Republican (thanks to Gingrich's "Contract with America.").  They pushed and got welfare reform, tax cuts, reductions in regulation, and movement toward a balanced budget (thanks to three whole new consumer industries).

Republicans will be able to do the same with Obama. The only snag will be if they are unwilling to "BORK" Obama's Court nominees. The Republicans certainly didn't Bork Bader/Ginsberg, and look what that got us.  The trend of allowing the Democrats to put activist lawyers for left wing radical organizations on the Court has got to stop.

As to the Court nominees, the ones to be replaced will be the most liberal and left wing.  If Obama replaces them with the likes of an SDS bomber or Black Nationalist preacher, it is no loss to the conservative cause.  If the Republicans stand firm, the net result may be a rightward shift on the Court.

A McCain presidency will split the Republican party and allow the RINOS to unite with the Democrats to implement McCain's liberal compromises.

If Obama is President the Republicans can be united against him and prevent the implementation of his left wing, liberal, socialist, black-nationalist, agenda.

A bit of Sanity

The Supremes Get ONE Right

In what has become the typical score of 5-4, the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment to the Constitution means that individuals are the ones entitled to keep and bear arms.  Good for them.  Better for them that the decision is filled with history and thoughtful discussion of Original Intent of the Constitution.

The amazing thing is that four justices believe that the State should disarm and leave helpless and defenseless its citizens in one of the most crime ridden enclaves in America.

WHY?

These days it seems that everything the federal government does best STOMPS on the Constitution.  The things that the Constitution requires the government to do seem to go by the wayside.

Our government is certainly not protecting us from invasion (Section Eight). The government is crushing the idea of eminent domain in that the Supreme Court has said (Kelo) that the government can take property to give to another party if that party will give more money to the government.  Post roads and canals are falling into decrepitude.

Now the Supreme Court has said that enemy combatants can have habeas corpus rights in spite of the fact that the Constitution clearly states that the privilege of habeas corpus can not be suspended except in time of war. I guess we are not in a war. Under the Geneva Convention, non uniformed enemy combatants can be summarily executed.

Maybe we should all read Amendment V.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb, nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life liberty, or property without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.

The liberals are screaming that the Bush administration is the element that is killing the Constitution and our rights. It looks pretty clear to me that it is being done by the Supreme Court.

What about the rights of Americans!

Berkeley Study says:

"Conservatives Born, NOT Made"

I was on the way to my dentist this morning for a regular cleaning (I am on a four month schedule because my tooth deposits build up much faster than my bank deposits). I learned that I have an abscess that needs fast surgery (so much for whining).  Being a conservative is more fun than pulling teeth.

I heard a report that the Berzerkley researchers found that conservatives were whiners when younger. I may have been a crybaby before 7th grade, but I learned better and whomped two of my tormentors in JrHS. That was end of the tormenting (I had been slow, clumsy, four-eyed, and fat).

My first political act was hanging a "We Like Ike" sign on our fourth grade bulletin board. One of my later political acts was hanging my high school history teacher in effigy when he told us the whole and real history of the Panama Canal. That was when I fancied Goldwater (the candidate AND the soft drink that tasted a lot like "Cactus Cooler"). I was a REAL radical when I was VP of our campus Young Republicans in college (my first drink of illegal Bourbon was at a Reagan [for Governor] victory party).

I was probably born as a conservative, because my parents were not particularly political. I didn’t learn until much later that my grandfather was a Republican ward boss in Chicago (talk about radical. It was CHICAGO!), two of my great uncles were murdered by labor union thugs, my own dad was hounded and beaten up by union thugs, my great great grandfather went to jail under the Fugitive Slave Law, and I had an estranged-by-divorce grandfather in the KKK.

I turned out more libertarian than conservative. I do not see that the government should meddle in soft drugs or prostitution, for example (looks like a contract to me), but I draw the line at homosexuals calling their unions "marriage."  I am as equally constrained from marrying a male as a gay guy. So much for the "equality under the law argument." I favor the death penalty for murderers. I believe that those who sneak across our borders should not receive any benefits not derived from their own labor. I think the age-old definition of marriage (one man, one woman, one lifetime) is a generally good thing. I believe that rights can only be taken from us by government by due process of law, and that benefits are not rights if they must be funded by forced confiscation from others. I believe in a strict interpretation of the Constitution and that most of what the Federal Government is doing today should be left to the States or the People. I believe that the States should make their own laws on abortion, even though I teach against this infanticide.

What I do disagree with the Berzerkley study on is their characterization of "conservative traits." They cite rigidity, lack of compassion, narrow mindedness, and a whole litany of negatives as being conservative traits. The only "positive" among them (and liberals would consider it a negative) is "respect for authority, tradition, and traditional roles."

I do have that respect. My wife of 36 years has been a traditional housewife from the beginning (but she happens to be Japanese). And, of course, I believe that there are bad people out there that should be dealt with or destroyed by the military, or the justice system and police.

My narrow mindedness and rigidity is amply shown by the web pages I have up.

How About the Immigration Bill?

I have seen more than just the stoop labor jobs being taken over by the illegals. The construction industry is being overrun by them. The oil patch and the whole restaurant industry is being taken over. These days the illegals are being pushed out of work by newer illegals.

Unlike many, I am totally against the idea of "Comprehensive Immigration Reform." First, such "omnibus bills" are simply ways of hiding the insignificant details like reducing the length of the fence (by half). If the illegals go around the fence, that is where ICE should be posted.

The most egregious detail about the current bill is that there is no penalty to those who do not choose the road to US Citizenship. They can remain and work forever on the Z-visa, without fear of deportation and without being subject to the fines and back tax payments. .

It’s not big business that is the bad guys. It’s all the little contractors TO the big guys. That’s how Wal-Mart got off. THEIR employees weren’t illegal. "Maximo’s Maintenence Company" hired the illegals. Same way with Chevron and the other big oil guys. It is their contractors who are turning away from roughnecks from Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma in favor of those from Jalisco, Chihuahua, and Tabasco.

The government says they can’t nail employers because these malfeasors have no way of checking the status of workers. If you or I were busted for having stolen property, it wouldn’t matter if we had a stack of bills of sale going back a decade.

The 1986 amnesty was Reagan’s biggest blunder, not because it was a bad idea, but because the government has shown that it lacks the will to enforce the border and the employer sanctions.

We should have no faith in our government’s promises of enforcement, now. We should have even less faith if the Presidency goes to the Democraps in 2008. The government can’t even find 400,000 folks who have been ordered deported. Overstayed visas are a laugh. The border is a sieve. The passport office and INS can’t handle all the applications, and you expect a whole new bureaucracy to do any better.

Without enforcement, the wave from the South will only overwhelm us and our entire social safety net. The black folks who are averse to learning Spanish will be forced out of work by bi-lingual speakers (legal ones, too) as the market learns that it must have a workforce that can talk to ALL of their customers.

When hiring low skill and entry level folks, who has the advantage?  Is it someone who is bilingual English/Spanish?  Or is it someone who only speaks Ebonics?

We are all being sold out by our Senators. The "War on Poverty" has worked so well that we need to import millions of poverty stricken from the south. We shouldn’t bring Mexico North. We need to take America SOUTH and with force, if necessary. We are being invaded for all the classic reasons. The Constitution clearly states that a major function of the Executive Branch is to protect us from INVASION!

A good rule of thumb for conservatives is that if Teddy Kennedy favors it, it is BAD policy. With that as the starting point, then the fine print can be examined for why it is.

On the plus side every Presidential race since 1964 has gone to the candidate who was more deemed as "a conservative, anti-tax outsider." Why won’t the Republicans realize this and put up a fight?

Here’s the PRESTON PLAN to keep our sovereignty:

1. Require all remittances of money to designated countries (Mexico, Mid-East) have 30% withheld and paid to the IRS. When the taxpayer files his tax return, he can claim a refund.

2. The presence of an illegal alien on payroll, regardless of steps taken to prevent it, subjects an employer to sanctions.

3. Our military is to be posted on the border. The president of Mexico is warned that for every illegal alien from Mexico apprehended north of the border, the United States of America will move the border one foot south as compensation for expenses incurred.

4. The provisions of Prop 187 in California and similar propositions in other states will be fully implemented.

5. Congress will make clear the meaning of the 14th Amendment. I.e. That it applies only to those formerly in servitude as to natural born citizens.

6.  English shall be made the official language of the United States.

7.  Television broadcasters in other than English shall be required to provide subtitles for all programming that is not a part of a bona fide language class.

8.  All foreign aid shall be ended for governments that advocate illegal emigration to the U.S.

That ought to be a good start.  The Panama Canal would be a good defensible southern border.

Is the Marine Corps Hymn Prescient?

From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, we will fight our country's battles in the air on land and sea....

Is it mere coincidence that these same two areas are STILL the biggest threats to the survival of the United States?

Maybe THIS time America will finish the job that has been left undone for so long!  Two hundred years hence, will these two areas threaten the survival of America?

It's Just Before Election

bulletMedia Pan Bush Birthday Gift

Don't you just love it?  In a report just before the election, the media are reporting on the birthday gift George gives to Laura.

George's gift to Laura shows practicality, good sense, value.  Much flash.  Little cash.

Citrine is considered a semiprecious stone.

Of course the Bush bashers will still hate him.
May they all be in the next skyscraper the Islamo-fascists bomb.

His birthday gift is a good choice.  It probably should not be news.

The only reason it was reported, at all, is that it gives Bush the look of Marie Antoinette to the ignorant liberals out there just before the election.  These jerks wouldn't know a topaz from a faux pas.

Citrine is a yellow to golden variety of quartz (silicon dioxide like much beach sand).  It is often used as a substitute for much more expensive golden topaz.  It makes good beads, and it gives good flash for reasonable money.  It takes facets well. It can be polished to vitreous luster.

It is a good and prudent choice all around.  Like GWB, himself (except for his liberal schemes as documented here).

I learned that TSA is confiscating lipstick, mascara, foundation and lotions, cologne, etc.  It's an Arab fiendish plot to make our women as ugly as theirs.  (That's why they're hidden under tents).
TSA was grabbing deodorants.  The Arabs want us all to smell like camels.

The Truth About World War Three

7/26/06 Los Angeles--Jay W. Preston-

Ordinarily I do not forward anything.  However, the information and perception by Dr, Chong is something that I felt was important enough to forward.

I did include my own introduction for those who do not know me or where I stand.

You all should know by now that I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and therefore neutral and a non-combatant in the wars of the world.  For more on how JW deal with vicious and dangerous totalitarians, see the BBC documentary "Purple Triangles," the new book on the life of Austrian Leopold Engleitner called Unbroken Will, or the JW documentary "Jehovah's Witnesses Stand Firm Against NAZI Assault."

If your hope is for peace on earth in the here and now, rather than after the end of the world, Armageddon, and Divine Intervention by the heavenly army led by Jesus, the following is an eye-opener about the nature of the threat now being imposed by the latest incarnation of what the Bible has called "The King of the North" (the entity that is associated with Babylon or Mesopotamia).  Hold onto your hats.

Remember, too, that the stirrings of Islamofascism have been around since before Saladin faced off with Richard the Lionheart (the brother of my ancestor, John of England).  The Crusades were a reaction to Islamofascists swarming all over the Mediterranean. --JWP

I had no idea who Dr. Chong is or the source of these thoughts... so when I received them, I almost deleted them - as well-written as they are. But then I did a "Google search" on the Doctor and found him to be a retired Air Force Surgeon of all things and past Commander of Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. So he is real, is connected to Veterans affairs in California, and these are his thoughts. They are worth reading and thinking about!(the same Google search will direct you to some of his
other thought-provoking writings.)

Subject: Muslims, terrorist and the USA. A different spin on Iraq war.

This WAR is for REAL! Dr. Vernon Chong, Major General, USAF, Retired

Tuesday, July 12, 2005
To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it. Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence, as we know it, that we have faced in your lifetime and mine (which includes WWII).

The deadly seriousness is greatly compounded by the fact that there are very few of us who think we can possibly lose this war and even fewer who realize what losing really means.

First, let's examine a few basics:

1. When did the threat to us start?
Many will say September 11, 2001. The answer as far as the United States is concerned is 1979, 22 years prior to September 2001, with the following attacks on us:

* Iran Embassy Hostages, 1979;
* Beirut, Lebanon Embassy 1983;
* Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks 1983;
* Lockerbie, Scotland Pan-Am flight to New York 1988;
* First New York World Trade Center attack 1993;
* Dhahran, Saudi Arabia Khobar Towers Military complex 1996;
* Nairobi, Kenya US Embassy 1998;
* Dares Salaam, Tanzania US Embassy 1998;
* Aden, Yemen USS Cole 2000;
* New York World Trade Center 2001;
* Pentagon 2001.

(Note that during the period from 1981 to 2001 there were 7,581 terrorist attacks worldwide).

2. Why were we attacked?

Envy of our position, our success, and our freedoms. The attacks happened during the administrations of Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. We cannot fault either the Republicans or Democrats as there were no provocations by any of the presidents or their immediate predecessors, Presidents Ford or Carter.

3. Who were the attackers?
In each case, the attacks on the US were carried out by Muslims.

4. What is the Muslim population of the World? 25%.

5. Isn't the Muslim Religion peaceful?
Hopefully, but that is really not material. There is no doubt that the predominately Christian population of Germany was peaceful, but under the dictatorial leadership of Hitler (who was also Christian), that made no difference. You either went along with the administration or you were eliminated. There were 5 to 6 million Christians killed by the Nazis for political reasons (including 7,000 Polish priests). (see http://www.nazis.testimony.co.uk/7-a.htm )

Thus, almost the same number of Christians were killed by the Nazis, as the six million holocaust Jews who were killed by them, and we seldom heard of anything other than the Jewish atrocities. Although Hitler kept the world focused on the Jews, he had no hesitancy about killing anyone who got in his way of exterminating the Jews or of taking over the world - German, Christian or any others.

Same with the Muslim terrorists. They focus the world on the US, but kill all in the way -- their own people or the Spanish, French or anyone else.  The point here is that just like the peaceful Germans were of no protection to anyone from the Nazis, no matter how many peaceful Muslims there may be, they are no protection for us from the terrorist Muslim leaders and what
they are fanatically bent on doing -- by their own pronouncements -- killing all of us "infidels." I don't blame the peaceful Muslims. What would you do if the choice was shut up or die?

6. So who are we at war with?

There is no way we can honestly respond that it is anyone other than the Muslim terrorists. Trying to be politically correct and avoid verbalizing this conclusion can well be fatal. There is no way to win if you don't clearly recognize and articulate who you are fighting.

So with that background, now to the two major questions:

1. Can we lose this war?

2. What does losing really mean?

If we are to win, we must clearly answer these two pivotal questionsWe can definitely lose this war, and as anomalous as it may sound, the major reason we can lose is that so many of us simply do not fathom the answer to the second question - What does losing mean?

It would appear that a great many of us think that losing the war means hanging our heads, bringing the troops home and going on about our business, like post Vietnam. This is as far from the truth as one can get.

What losing really means is:

We would no longer be the premier country in the world. The attacks will not subside, but rather will steadily increase. Remember, they want us dead, not just quiet. If they had just wanted us quiet, they would not have produced an increasing series of attacks against us, over the past 18 years. The plan was clearly, for terrorist to attack us, until we were neutered and
submissive to them.

We would of course have no future support from other nations, for fear of reprisals and for the reason that they would see, we are impotent and cannot help them.

They will pick off the other non-Muslim nations, one at a time. It will be increasingly easier for them. They already hold Spain hostage. It doesn't matter whether it was right or wrong for Spain to withdraw its troops from Iraq. Spain did it because the Muslim terrorists bombed their train and told them to withdraw the troops. Anything else they want Spain to do will be done. Spain is finished.

The next will probably be France. Our one hope on France is that they might see the light and realize that if we don't win, they are finished too, in that they can't resist the Muslim terrorists without us. However, it may already be too late for France. France is already 20% Muslim and fading fast!

If we lose the war, our production, income, exports and way of life will all vanish as we know it. After losing, who would trade or deal with us, if they were threatened by the Muslims. If we can't stop the Muslims, how could anyone else?

The Muslims fully know what is riding on this war, and therefore are completely committed to winning, at any cost. We better know it too and be likewise committed to winning at any cost.

Why do I go on at such lengths about the results of losing? Simple. Until we recognize the costs of losing, we cannot unite and really put 100% of our thoughts and efforts into winning. And it is going to take that 100% effort to win.

So, how can we lose the war?

Again, the answer is simple. We can lose the war by "imploding." That is, defeating ourselves by refusing to recognize the enemy and their purpose, and really digging in and lending full support to the war effort. If we are united, there is no way that we can lose. If we continue to be divided, there is no way that we can win!

Let me give you a few examples of how we simply don't comprehend the life and death seriousness of this situation.

President Bush selects Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation.  Although all of the terrorist attacks were committed by Muslim men between 17 and 40 years of age, Secretary Mineta refuses to allow profiling. Does that sound like we are taking this thing seriously? This is war! For the duration, we are going to have to give up some of the civil rights we have become accustomed to. We had better be prepared to lose some of our civil rights temporarily or we will most certainly lose all
of them permanently.

And don't worry that it is a slippery slope. We gave up plenty of civil rights during WWII, and immediately restored them after the victory and in fact added many more since then.

Do I blame President Bush or President Clinton before him?

No, I blame us for blithely assuming we can maintain all of our Political Correctness, and all of our civil rights during this conflict and have a clean, lawful, honorable war. None of those words apply to war. Get them out of your head.

Some have gone so far in their criticism of the war and/or the Administration that it almost seems they would literally like to see us lose. I hasten to add that this isn't because they are disloyal. It is because they just don't recognize what losing means. Nevertheless, that conduct gives the impression to the
enemy that we are divided and weakening. It concerns our friends, and it does great damage to our cause.

Of more recent vintage, the uproar fueled by the politicians and media regarding the treatment of some prisoners of war, perhaps exemplifies best what I am saying. We have recently had an issue, involving the treatment of a few Muslim prisoners of war, by a small group of our military police. These are the type prisoners who just a few months ago were throwing their own people off buildings, cutting off their hands, cutting out their tongues and otherwise murdering their own people just for disagreeing with Saddam Hussein.

And just a few years ago these same type prisoners chemically killed 400,000 of their own people for the same reason. They are also the same type of enemy fighters, who recently were burning Americans, and dragging their charred corpses through the streets of Iraq. And still more recently, the same type of enemy that was and is providing videos to all news sources internationally, of the beheading of American prisoners they held.

Compare this with some of our press and politicians, who for several days have thought and talked about nothing else but the "humiliating" of some Muslim prisoners -- not burning them, not dragging their charred corpses through the streets, not beheading them, but "humiliating" them.

Can this be for real?

The politicians and pundits have even talked of impeachment of the Secretary of Defense. If this doesn't show the complete lack of comprehension and understanding of the seriousness of the enemy we are fighting, the life and death struggle we are in and the disastrous results of losing this war, nothing can.

To bring our country to a virtual political standstill over this prisoner issue makes us look like Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned -- totally oblivious to what is going on in the real world. Neither we, nor any other country, can survive this internal strife. Again I say, this does not mean that some of our politicians or media people are disloyal. It simply means that they are absolutely oblivious to the magnitude, of the situation we are in and into which the Muslim terrorists have been pushing us, for many years.

Remember, the Muslim terrorists stated goal is to kill all infidels! That translates into ALL non-Muslims -- not just in the United State, but throughout the world.

We are the last bastion of defense.

We have been criticized for many years as being 'arrogant.' That charge is valid in at least one respect. We are arrogant in that we believe that we are so good, powerful and smart, that we can win the hearts and minds of all those who attack us, and that with both hands tied behind our back, we can defeat anything bad in the world!

We can't!

If we don't recognize this, our nation as we know it will not survive, and no other free country in the world will survive if we are defeated.

And finally, name any Muslim countries throughout the world that allow freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, equal rights for anyone -- let alone everyone, equal status or any status for women, or that have been productive in one single way that contributes to the good of the world.

This has been a long way of saying that we must be united on this war or we will be equated in the history books to the self-inflicted fall of the Roman Empire . If, that is, the Muslim leaders will allow history books to be written or read.

If we don't win this war right now, keep a close eye on how the Muslims take over France in the next 5 years or less. They will continue to increase the Muslim population of France and continue to encroach little by little, on the established French traditions. The French will be fighting among themselves, over what should or should not be done, which will continue to weaken them and keep them from any united resolve. Doesn't that sound eerily familiar?

Democracies don't have their freedoms taken away from them by some external military force. Instead, they give their freedoms away, politically correct piece by politically correct piece.

And they are giving those freedoms away to those who have shown, worldwide that they abhor freedom and will not apply it to you or even to themselves, once they are in power.

They have universally shown that when they have taken over, they then start brutally killing each other over who will be the few who control the masses. Will we ever stop hearing from the politically correct, about the "peaceful Muslims"?

I close on a hopeful note, by repeating what I said above. If we are united, there is no way that we can lose I hope now after the election, the factions in our country will begin to focus on the critical situation we are in, and will unite to save our country. It is your future we are talking about! Do whatever you can to preserve it.

After reading the above, we all must do this not only for ourselves, but our children, our grandchildren, our country and the world.

Whether Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal and that include the Politicians and media of our country and the free world!

Please forward this to any you feel may want, or NEED to read it. Our "leaders" in Congress ought to read it, too. There are those that find fault with our country, but it is obvious to anyone who truly thinks through this, that we must UNITE!

Read the Thanksgiving Messages!

From George Washington

From Abraham Lincoln

What would be the reaction of our executive branch and military if a million Mexicans in uniform marched across our southern border in formation?

How does this hypothetical differ from today's illegal immigration?

Maybe it's time to take America South instead of allowing Mexico to come North!

-- Questions of the day for the Federal wimps.

Attention Hand-wringing Liberals!

Did you know that citizen for citizen and acre for acre, Iraq is safer from Arab terrorism than Israel is?  Bad guys are blowing up police stations in the Sunni Triangle and Baghdad, yet there are more and more volunteers!  How about reporting THIS story?

Would Tokyo Rose be any less treasonous if she broadcast from Washington, D.C.?

-- Question of the day for the wimps in the Senate.

Kerry Spouts Off Again!

With the regularity of "Old Faithful," Kerry blows off steam in a speech against Bush.  Among other things, he said that Bin Laden is likely to die of kidney failure before he is killed by Carl Rove and his gang.  This likely may be true.  It will be Marines or Special Ops or a CIA Predator that will do the evil deed.

Here's a comforting certainty.  Kerry will get more votes than George W. Bush in the next Presidential election.

What Kerry and Co. should be worried about is that 71% in a recent poll agreed with Carl Rove's statement that it is a good thing if we learn the content of Al Qaeda's calls to American shores.

Supreme Court Rules on Commandments

"Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof...."                            Leviticus 25:10

This quotation from Leviticus in the Bible may be the next "establishment of religion" to be attacked, as our liberty has already been besmirched by the court in myriads of ways.  It seems that the Court favors liberty when it increases the size and power of the Federal Government at the expense of personal freedom.  See the story below.

Property Rights Abolished!

The five Justices on the Supreme Court who voted to allow the taking for a public purpose rather than for public use should be impeached for failing to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution!

There is now a move afoot to amend the Constitution. I fail to see how an amendment to the Constitution could make it any clearer than the Fifth Amendment already specifies. It seems that the only things the government does these days are the things specifically limited, or preserved for the states, by the Constitution.

We know about how well the Feds are protecting us from invasion as millions of Mexicans cross our border illegally.

We know about the deterioration of our post offices and post roads.

We know about how limitations on patents and copyright have been perverted to benefit big corporations.

We know how districts have been Gerrymandered to ensure incumbency of our representatives.

We know how the rights to contract have been obliterated, as we are told what we must or must not buy, who we must employ, and what we must or must not pay.

We know how "interstate commerce" is now "everything," so the Feds can "regulate" all of it.

We know how the gold standard has been perverted to the point that the dollar is simply a fiat currency with no intrinsic value.

We know how the freedom of religion has been perverted to a freedom FROM religion.

We know how we can be prosecuted "civilly" or criminally for what we say if it offends a "protected" class.

We know how a thing can be a hate crime if a judge doesn't like our attitude toward a victim in a protected class.

We now know how the government can take anything for any purpose at all.

Ode to Fred Korematsu

He was the grandson of the land of the rising sun.

His parents came to the land where the light in the east

Was a torch held high, the torch of liberty

This pine tree stood upright against a betrayal of that liberty

This pine tree, Korematsu, stood alone and prevailed against the storm

Even against decades of shame

The Constitution is perfect, but the nation is people

And people are far, far from perfection

In a violent upheaval and cataclysm

that ended with two suns rising,

In the populist fervor, human frailties prevailed,

And an order went forth calling for the people to submit

To be deprived of liberty and property

Without due process of law.

Fred Korematsu has passed, but the warning must live on.

He stood up, and was hammered down.

Remember from the words of Gerald Ford:

"The government that has the power to give you everything you want,

Has the power to take from you everything you have."

Let us always remember this, and Fred Korematsu’s struggle.

Freedom,  Boon or Bane?

Freedom and democracy sometimes are not pretty. They can get downright ugly. The rub comes with trying to balance protecting minority rights while maintaining majority rule. This can sometimes be done with measures such as a politically neutral court system or the application of super majorities to specific elements of government action.

Democracy has raised its uglier side when the Austrians elected the self proclaimed neo-NAZI, Herr Heider. The uproar was felt around the world. Democracy can get ugly. Maybe Herr Heider was just an ultra nationalist, but his xenophobia raised many hackles as he advocated restrictions on immigration and foreign workers.

Freedom can get ugly, too. It means that sometimes unpopular, distasteful, or wrong ideas or acts cannot be prevented or deterred. The flag burning issue is a classic here in the USA.

One of my particular favorite examples of ugly freedom recently was the young Afghani lady who entered a beauty contest and thumbed her nose at her national culture. This may be wrong as well as unpopular. The newly free Afghan women may hold this entry in contempt, but it is a manifestation of a new found freedom, like it or not.

And thousands of teenage boys will abandon their security blankets in hopes of snuggling in bed with an Afghan.

Los Angeles Can Solve Fiscal Woes.

Here is my solution for the City of Los Angeles' financial woes.
It is in the law that cars being driven by unlicensed drivers and those uninsured can be impounded, forfeited, and sold.
The city needs only to set up checkpoints (as for drunks which the Supreme Court said was OK). It is estimated that 60% of the cars in the Pico-Union area are driven without insurance.

bulletThe City nabs and sells the cars.
bulletThe City nabs and sends home the illegal aliens. (Buying the airline tickets will bail out the airlines).
bulletThe City fines the bad guys.
bulletThe City forces more folks onto the MTA (to support it by paying fares).

WIN WIN WIN WIN!

Except there is no politician or group of politicians that would have the guts to do it.

Los Angeles Times Poll

I am so angry, I can barely speak or write!  Apoplexy is no new experience to me.

The news departments at every radio station I listen to have made the Los Angeles Times poll of last Thursday the lead item on every broadcast since Friday morning.

The Times poll has dramatically improved the position of both Cruz Bustamante and the Davis effort to defeat the recall.  This was opposed to most prior polling.

The TIMES poll is now moot and worthless because Simon has since dropped out.

The TIMES poll has been discredited as a "pushed" poll: i.e. using leading or informational techniques to skew the poll in the direction the Times intends.

In a short campaign, perceived poll results can create a band wagon effect, and there would be insufficient time for the truth to come out.  It DRIVES ME CRAZY!  Thank goodness for the internet!

I just finished reading Ann Coulter's Slander.  The situation is even worse than I knew re: liberal bias.  How can a better team win when there is such a liberal home court advantage?

I cry for our liberty.

RECALL!

Ah, yes, I remember it well!

The recall of California's governor is not wrong.
It is fully constitutional due to progressive legislation that was passed nearly 80 years ago.
It is true that it was bankrolled by a sore loser, but it would have gone nowhere without overwhelming bi-partisan support.
Nearly 20% of the number of actual voters in the 2002 gubernatorial election signed the petition to put the recall on the ballot.  The California Constitution specifies that a recall cannot be thwarted due to the nature of the reasons.
The Democrat threats of doing the same to any Republican are hollow. First there must be dissatisfaction. A recall was tried against Reagan, and it got nowhere.
Actually, those who tend to lean libertarian (a la Larry Elder), can't see how those who support the recall have anything to gain by its support. I can see no Republican accomplishing anything with the Democrats so in control of the legislature.
The mess in Sacramento is a Democrat creation (with acquiescence of Republicans) so those should be the ones straightening it out (insert horse laugh here).
The only roadblock they have between them and taxing us all into oblivion is the Constitutional requirement that tax increases have a super majority (Hallelujah! Praise Jarvis-Gann).
THE POWER TO TAX IS THE POWER TO DESTROY. California is well on the way to destruction.
You want higher taxes? You and rest of your limosine liberal friends: FORK OVER. Leave us struggling middle class folk alone.
I yearn for the olden days when there were honest politicians who bought the votes with their own money rather than that of the taxpayers.
The fall of the USSR is only one more example of a government that falls when it votes its citizens largess from the public treasury.
America has more wealth to squander than the USSR, but it is well on its way. California and other pockets of compassionate socialism are well on the way.
In California. now, there is a bit under 4 productive citizens for each one non-productive. In ten years that ratio will be closer to 2:1. Such demographics and unrestrained largess are the trigger to bankruptcy and collapse.
Support the Castillian Spaniard, Bustamonte, if you like. I prefer liberty.
As a diver, naturalist, oceanographer, gemologist I fully support a clean environment, and I urge you to consider that when California is reduced to the economy of a third world country, ecological concerns will go out the window.
Compare Tijuana to National City, Los Angeles to Mexico City, even Mexicali to Calexico, or Laredo to Nuevo Laredo.
One more thing I thank you for is that the technology that you and your ilk pioneered makes it possible for a workforce to move out to places that are less stifling and burdensome. More and more Californians are heeding that call and bailing out.

Clinton Defends Bush

Jay Preston, Los Angeles

Last night on Larry King, Billary Clinton called in.  He supported Bush.  The airwaves have been buzzing ever since.

The theories have been flying as every caller tries to determine the reason for this bit of contrition.  Some have said that it shows that Clinton has finally seen the light.  Some are saying that it is Billary maneuvering to better position his better half.

The best reason has been set forward by Rush Limbaugh.  As usual he has cut through the thick fog.  He has decided that it is fully in character for Billary.  He is covering his A--.  As he always does when he enters a swamp full of alligators, Billary is looking out for himself.  He has come to be aware that if the Democrats succeed in convincing everyone that Bush was a liar because of the dreaded 16 words in the State of the Union message, historians or writers or SOMEBODY may see that Billary said the same thing as Bush back in 1998 with MORE certainty, based on the same evidence.

Hence, the case would be made that Billary is a liar.  Billary does not want history to judge him as a liar.  Me thinks that the world needs little more evidence to know that Billary is a liar.  The eighth wonder of the modern world is why Clinton doesn't think the world knows it.  I guess Billary still has his home court advantage in the press.

WMD's Vanish?

Jay Preston, Los Angeles

The American Democrats, left-wingers, Socialists and quasi socialists are now jumping on the "Bush lied" band wagon.
Is it not incongruous that after the Bush invasion was successful with minimal loss of life and infrastructure on both sides and that they are now saying that the intelligence that Clinton relied on to seek U.N. sanctions and justify multiple bombing missions on Iraq are suddenly wrong and/or being manipulated?
Does it strike you as weird that after four months in the U.N. trying to convince the French and Germans to go along with America and telegraphing American plans, that the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction should NOT be well hidden?
This is when the CIA director that Clinton appointed is STILL at the helm?
As Arte Johnson once said on the "Laugh In" television variety show, "VEEEEERRRRYYY interesting."
It is ALL anti-right-wing politics.  The left is dangerous and a threat to American Constitutional values.
It is no accident that America's staunchest allies are those of Eastern Europe who have over thrown socialist systems. They value FREEDOM.  So do I.

Is There Anything Left That Matters?
by Sister Joan Chittister, OSB

From The National Catholic Reporter
05/29/03

COMMENTS IN CAPS BY JAY W. PRESTON

This is what I don't understand: All of a sudden nothing seems to matter.  First, they said they wanted Bin Laden "dead or alive." But they didn't get him. So now they tell us that it doesn't matter. "Our mission is greater than one man."

THEY ARE STILL AFTER HIM. IF HE IS NOT DEAD YET HE SOON WILL BE. THE BAD GUYS HAVE PLENTY OF REASON TO MAKE HIM LOOK ALIVE. DEAD HE HAS NO POWER FOR RECRUITING OR TERROR. "ALIVE" HE CAN STILL DEFY AMERICA.

Then they said they wanted Saddam Hussein, "dead or alive." He's apparently alive but we haven't got him yet, either. However, President Bush told reporters recently, "It doesn't matter. Our mission is greater than one man."

SADDAM IS PROBABLY DEAD. IF NOT THEY ARE STILL AFTER HIM. HE IS NO LONGER IN POWER.

Finally, they told us that we were invading Iraq to destroy their weapons of mass destruction. Now they say those weapons probably don't exist. Maybe never existed. Apparently that doesn't matter either. Except that it does
matter.

MISSION SUCCESSFUL. THEY ARE GONE OR SO FAR UNDERGROUND THAT THEY POSE NO THREAT. THEY HAVEN'T BEEN USED SINCE SADDAM GASSED THE KURDS. THEY HAVEN'T BEEN FOUND BECAUSE MANY WERE SHIPPED TO SYMPATHIZER SYRIA AND LOADED ABOARD THOSE SHIPS THAT HAVE DISAPPEARED. BUT WMD WAS ONLY one OF THE REASONS U.S. WENT IN. SAVING THE IRAQIS FROM A BRUTAL DICTATOR WAS ANOTHER. BREAKING THE IRAQ-AL QUEDA LINK WAS ANOTHER. RESTORING STABILITY IN A REGION WHERE IRAQ HAD THREATENED OR INVADED ITS NEIGHBORS WAS ANOTHER.

I know we're not supposed to say that. I know it's called "unpatriotic."

AS A CATHOLIC SISTER, YOUR JOB IS TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL SO THAT THERE WILL BE NO THUGS AND CRIMINALS DOING THINGS THAT CALL DOWN THE WRATH OF GOVERNMENTS ON THEM. READ YOUR BIBLE.

But it's also called honesty. And dishonesty matters.

IT IS DISHONEST ONLY IF THE PERSON WHO UTTERS IT SPEAKS WHAT HE KNOWS NOT TO BE TRUE. EVERY INDICATION WAS THAT SADDAM WAS HIDING WMD. IF NOT, WHY DID HE NOT EMBARRASS THE U.S. IN THE LAST MOMENTS BY ENDING HIS CAT AND MOUSE GAME WITH THE U.N. INSPECTORS?

It matters that the infrastructure of a foreign nation that couldn't defend itself against us has been destroyed on the grounds that it was a military threat to the world.

THE CIVILIAN INFRASTRUCTURE THAT HAD NOT BEEN LOOTED BY THE CORRUPT AND BRUTAL SADDAM REGIME WERE SCRUPULOUSLY AVOIDED. BRIDGES WERE NOT BLOWN. POWER PLANTS WERE NOT DESTROYED. WATER PLANTS ARE BEING BROUGHT ON LINE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. HARBORS ARE BEING CLEARED. OILFIELDS WERE PROTECTED FROM SABOTAGE. AIRFIELDS ARE OPEN FOR CARGO.
FROM THE LEFT-WING PROPAGANDA, THE U.S. WAS GOING TO BE BOGGED DOWN IN A PROTRACTED QUAGMIRE. AS USUAL, THE LEFT IS WRONG AGAIN. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. THE PRE-WAR SPIN FROM THE LEFT SAID THAT IRAQ WOULD KICK AMERICA'S BUTT, HENCE, THEY CERTAINLY WERE A THREAT.

It matters that it was destroyed by us under a new doctrine of "pre-emptive war" when there was apparently nothing worth pre-empting.

THE WAR WAS NOT PRE-EMPTIVE. IT WAS A RESUMPTION OF HOSTILITIES AFTER THE AGREEMENTS THAT STOPPED THE 91 GULF WAR WERE FLAGRANTLY VIOLATED AT EVERY TURN, AS WELL AS SUBSEQUENT U.N. RESOLUTIONS AND MANDATES. THE U.N. SHRUNK FROM ENFORCING THEM.

It surely matters to the families here whose sons went to war to make the world safe from weapons of mass destruction and will never come home.

THEY DID THEIR DUTY AS COMMANDED BY THEIR COMMANDER IN CHIEF. WHAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED WAS WORTHY OF THEIR LIVES. I AM SURE THAT THEIR MISSIONS WERE ALL BLESSED BY THE CATHOLIC CHAPLAINS THAT WERE ON HAND, AND I AM SURE THAT MANY OF THOSE WARRIORS WERE CATHOLIC (MANY WERE LATINOS WHO HAVE A LONG AND MERITORIOUS RECORD OF SERVICE IN THE U.S. MILITARY).  THEY WERE ALL VOLUNTEERS. NONE WERE CONSCRIPTS OF ANY KIND.  BUT ANY WAR IS TRAGIC.

It matters to families in the United States whose life support programs were ended, whose medical insurance ran out, whose food stamps were cut off, whose day care programs were eliminated so we could spend the money on sending an army to do what did not need to be done.

NONE OF THE ACTIVITIES YOU CITE ARE EVEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S JOB UNDER THE CONSTITUTION. THERE ARE PLENTY OF STATE PROGRAMS.  BESIDES YOU CATHOLIC FOLKS ARE THERE TO FILL IN THE SLACK. AS JESUS SAID "...FOR THE POOR ARE WITH YOU ALWAYS." AND PAUL SAID, "LET HE THAT DOES NOT WORK NOT EAT."

It matters to the Iraqi girl whose face was burned by a lamp that toppled over as a result of a U.S. bombing run.

AND HUNDREDS LIKE HER WERE intentionally BRUTALIZED IN FRONT OF THEIR PARENTS BY THE ENDED SADDAM REGIME.

It matters to Ali, the Iraqi boy who lost his family - and both his arms - in a U.S. air attack.

AND HUNDREDS LIKE HIM WERE intentionally BRUTALIZED IN FRONT OF THEIR PARENTS BY THE ENDED SADDAM REGIME.

It matters to the people in Baghdad whose water supply is now fetid, whose electricity is gone, whose streets are unsafe, whose 158 government ministries' buildings and all their records have been destroyed, whose cultural heritage and social system has been looted and whose cities teem with anti-American protests.

AND EVERYTHING WAS HUNKY DORY WHILE SADDAM WAS IN POWER.
YOU PROBABLY WROTE THAT THE U.N. INSPECTORS NEEDED MORE TIME TO FIND THE WMD. YET YOU ARE UNWILLING TO ALLOW MORE TIME FOR AMERICA TO DO THE SAME OR RETURN FUNCTIONALITY TO IRAQ..

It matters that the people we say we "liberated" do not feel liberated in the midst of the lawlessness, destruction and wholesale social suffering that so-called liberation created.

THE MAJORITY OF IRAQIS IS SHIITE.  THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH IRAN HAS A LONG ANTI-AMERICAN HISTORY.  FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 30 YEARS THEY ARE free TO PROTEST AND ASSEMBLE. (EVEN TO DEMONSTRATE AGAINST THEIR LIBERATORS). IT WILL DEFINITELY BE A PROBLEM IF THESE FRIENDLY FOLKS INSIST ON A TALIBAN-STYLE THEOCRACY.
BUT, THEN, MAYBE YOU WILL GO THERE TO EVANGELIZE AND THAT WILL BE THE LAST WE WILL HEAR FROM YOU.

It matters to the United Nations whose integrity was impugned, whose authority was denied, whose inspection teams are even now still being overlooked in the process of technical evaluation and disarmament.

THE U.N. IS THE GREAT HARLOT. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE FRENCH, GERMANS, RUSSIANS, AND CHINESE WERE ONLY COVERING THEIR OWN POSTERIORS FROM THEIR ILLEGAL DEALINGS WITH SADDAM. THE U.N. IS CORRUPT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AS IT TRIES TO SUPPLANT GOD IN THE AFFAIRS OF THE WORLD. SYRIA AND LIBYA ARE ON THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION. THEIR ONLY PURPOSE IS TO STICK IT TO THE U.S. OUT OF ENVY, GREED, AND COVETOUSNESS.  MAKE THE U.S. PAY.  WHAT THEY DON'T REALIZE IS THAT THE U.S. IS THE GOOSE THAT LAYS GOLDEN EGGS FOR THE WHOLE WORLD.

It matters to the reputation of the United States in the eyes of the world, both now and for decades to come, perhaps.

EVERYBODY HATES THEIR LANDLORDS, BANKERS, AND INSURANCE CARRIERS. SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW? SOCIALIST TOTALITARIAN STATES AND BIGOTED THEOCRACIES WILL ALWAYS HATE AND SLANDER WHAT IS BETTER, FREER, AND MORE SUCCESSFUL. THE U.S. REMAINS A BEACON TO THE WORLD. THEY SAY THEY LIKE FREEDOM. THEY SAY THEY LIKE IMPARTIAL JUDICIARY. THEY SAY THEY LIKE FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND PRESS. THEY SAY THEY LIKE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAW, THEY SAY THEY LIKE OPEN PLURALISTIC SOCIETY. BUT THEY SAY THEY HATE AMERICA. GO FIGURE.

And surely it matters to the integrity of this nation whether or not its intelligence gathering agencies have any real intelligence or not before we launch a military armada on its say-so.

NOW THIS I AGREE WITH. LIBERAL GOODY-GOODIES HAVE SO EMASCULATED AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE ACTIVITIES BY ELIMINATING PEOPLE ON THE GROUND AND TRADITIONAL SPYING, THIS IS NO SURPRISE. "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" HAS SO COMPROMISED COMMON SENSE AND GOOD POLICING THAT IT IS LESS THAN USELESS.
WITHIN MINUTES THE FBI AND FEDS OF ALL STRIPES KNEW WHO WHO THE BAD GUYS OF 9/11 WERE. THEY KNEW BEFORE AND HAD SURVEILLANCE ON MANY. THEY WERE HAMSTRUNG FROM ACTING BY THEIR FEAR OF OFFENDING MUSLIMS. EVEN NOW IN THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN THE U.S., THE CONCERN IS FEAR OF BEING SINGLED OUT FOR SPECIAL SCRUTINY. SO LITTLE OLD GRANDMOTHERS ARE FRISKED BEFORE GETTING ON AIRPLANES.

And it should matter whether or not our government is either incompetent and didn't know what they were doing or were dishonest and refused to say.

SAME POINT AS ABOVE.

The unspoken truth is that either as a people we were misled, or we were lied to, about the real reason for this war. Either we made a huge - and unforgivable - mistake, an arrogant or ignorant mistake, or we are swaggering around the world like a blind giant, flailing in all directions while the rest of the world watches in horror or in ridicule.

THAT GOVERNMENT IS BEST WHICH GOVERNS LEAST. YOU LIBERAL LEFT-WINGERS CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. THE TOTALITARIAN SOCIALIST WELFARE STATES YOU WANT FOR THE WHOLE WORLD MUST HAVE RESOURCES TO SQUANDER. AMERICA IS THE ENGINE OF THAT WEALTH.

If Bill Clinton's definition of "is" matters, surely this matters. If a president's sex life matters, surely a president's use of global force against some of the weakest people in the world matters. If a president's word in a court of law about a private indiscretion matters, surely a president's word to the community of nations and the security of millions of people matters.

BILL CLINTON SAID THE SAME WORDS ABOUT THE NEED TO CURTAIL SADDAM BACK IN 1997. BUT ALL HE DID WAS BLOW UP AN ASPIRIN FACTORY IN THE SUDAN. THE SHOW OF INEFFECTUAL WEAKNESS AS IN SOMALIA WAS A GREEN LIGHT FOR THE THUGS OF THE WORLD.

And if not, why not? If not, surely there is something as wrong with us as citizens, as thinkers, as Christians as there must be with some facet of the government. If wars that the public says are wrong yesterday - as over 70% of U.S. citizens did before the attack on Iraq - suddenly become "right" the
minute the first bombs drop, what kind of national morality is that?

YOU CATHOLICS SHOULD STOP BLESSING WARS OF ALL KINDS. START EXCOMMUNICATING THE FOLKS WHO UNREPENTANTLY DO EVIL. GO EVANGELIZE IN THE MUSLIM COUNTRIES. IN SHORT, DO WHAT JESUS AND JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES DO.
AND HAVE YOUR PRIESTS STOP MOLESTING LITTLE BOYS.

Of what are we really capable as a nation if the considered judgment of politicians and people around the world means nothing to us as a people?

"DO NOT PUT YOUR TRUST IN NOBLES, TO WHOM NO SALVATION BELONGS."

What is the depth of the American soul if we can allow destruction to be done in our name and the name of "liberation" and never even demand an accounting of its costs, both personal and public, when it is over?

ACCOUNTING:
AMERICA: 1     TOTALITARIAN THUGGERY: 0

We like to take comfort in the notion that people make a distinction between our government and ourselves. We like to say that the people of the world love Americans, they simply mistrust our government. But excoriating a distant and anonymous "government" for wreaking rubble on a nation in pretense of good requires very little of either character or intelligence.

THE RESOLUTION GIVING BUSH UNLIMITED AUTHORITY IN THE WAR ON TERROR AFTER 9/11 WAS PASSED WITH ONLY ONE DISSENTING VOTE.

What may count most, however, is that we may well be the ones Proverbs warns when it reminds us: "Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value the one who speaks the truth." The point is clear: If the people speak and the king doesn't listen, there is something wrong with the king. If the king acts precipitously and the people say nothing, something is wrong with the people. It may be time for us to realize that in a country that prides itself on being democratic, we are our government. And the rest of the world is figuring that out very quickly.

From where I stand, that matters.

PHYSICIAN: HEAL THYSELF!"

ANYTHING LEFT SHOULD NOT MATTER.

ONLY THE RIGHT SHOULD MATTER.

Bush Appointed Garner to be

Postwar Iraq Czar

Retired General, Jay Garner, took on post war organization tasks.  Or was it the guy who really wanted the job -- "Duke" from the Doonesbury strip?  That's Garner on the far right (or is it?).

Question:  Is totalitarianism any worse when imposed by force of arms, imposed by force of words, or if democratically chosen?

What’s up with Oil Prices?

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Oil prices have risen to levels not seen since March of the last of the Clinton years (2000). Already the usual suspects of left wing legislators are searching for culprits in this clear incidence of price gouging. The Clinton price rise was undoubtedly Bush’s fault.

The oil price is being bid up for a number of reasons. The price is being bid up from a basis of inflation adjusted levels not seen since the 1960's. But what constitutes a fair price? Who is to determine? Some elements causing the price to rise are the mideast uncertainties, unrest in Venezuela and Nigeria, an unseasonably cold winter (Curse you, Punxatawney Phil!).

Crude oil is sold on an open auction market. You and I and everyone else with some money to spend and some storage tanks can buy crude oil at spot day-to-day, or buy it now for delivery in the future. Such markets also are present for some of the refined products.

One of the things you will never hear from the left wingers is who in the world makes the most money from the sale of petroleum products, particularly motor fuels. As of today the Federal Government takes 18 cents per gallon on each gallon of gasoline sold. The tax on diesel fuel is double that because of "environmental impact." California’s government also applies sales tax to fuel, and this means that California’s government gets more money if the price is higher.

The government gets its cut by payments from the retailers who do the accounting and the recording and reporting and the collecting from customers and the check writing. The government has virtually zero cost associated with its involvement with petroleum. No cost. Only profit.

The Federal Government, and also the many State and Local Governments, get the tax money. They therefore get their cut as 100% profit. The governments make more profit on petroleum than the geologists who find it. Governments profit more than the drillers that dig for it. Governments profit more than the oil well service companies that install and maintain the bore hole equipment and pumps. Governments profit more than the pipeline builders and operators who move the crude across the land. Governments profit more than the tanker fleets that move the oil around the world to where it will be refined. Governments profit more than that the companies that refine the crude into the useful products used by consumers. Governments profit more than the pipeline and tanker and railroad operators who move the finished refined fractions of petroleum to distributors. Governments profit more than the distributors who move the petroleum products like gasoline diesel, propane, butane, LPG, aviation fuel, heating oil, and all the rest to the retail outlets like local service stations or hardware stores.

Finally, if any of the above entities ever make a profit at all, the governments take their cut in the way of income tax! But we must all remember that it is the oil companies who are price gouging.

Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

It is important to appreciate that Iraq has no weapons of mass destruction.  They have none.  To understand their statement and reasoning one must dissect what Iraqis have said.

Bill Clinton said "...it depends on what the definition of 'is' is."

Saddam says, "Iraq has no weapons of mass destruction."  Iraq may not.  Individuals in Iraq may.  Other persons within Iraq may.  But this is really just nit-picking.

The real point is that there are NO weapons of mass destruction.  Any high school physics student will tell you that mass cannot be created or destroyed.  It can only can be transmuted into energy.

Therefore the only rational conclusion is that Iraq cannot have any weapons of mass destruction.

Case closed.  Now, perhaps, our President will begin the real war which is necessary to stamp out Islamic totalitarianism wherever it exists and flourishes.

Flag Salute "under God"

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

The big news that is all over the radio dial and the front pages these days is that the ninth circuit court of appeals has determined that the phrase :under god," that was inserted in the American "Pledge of Allegiance," is unconstitutional.  On the face of it, this appears to be a correct decision.  Forget that it was arrived at by the most overturned court in the land.

The first amendment to the Constitution does not mince words.  It says that Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.  In the case at hand, Congress DID make such a law when they ordered the phrase "under god" inserted.  It should be pointed out that the insertion was the result of a major campaign by the Knights of Columbus and other organizations not generally known for their secular outlook.

In the long run, none of this really matters.  Back in the 1940's Jehovah's Witnesses took the case all the way to the Supreme Court.  They won.  The Court's decision stated that no person could lawfully be compelled to recite the Pledge.  The J.W. had no intent to outlaw anything or force those happy pledgers to do anything.  They simply wanted to enforce the right to be allowed to conscientiously object to being required to recite the pledge.  That decision stands, today.

The atheist from San Francisco, who wanted the whole pledge thrown out, thought that it made his kid appear unpatriotic if he didn't say the Pledge.  I say the kid should learn to stand up to his convictions.  He should dare to be different.  He should go about teaching others what he thinks is right.  That's what Jehovah's Witnesses do.  Witnesses do not waste time trying to eliminate what the majority likes in a courtroom setting.  They teach what is right.

With Friends Like Bush

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Some have been criticizing President Bush.  For that I offer  congratulations!  What's not to like?.

Now Bush is finally caving on global warming.  This is his final gambit to make everybody like him.  His Dad failed, but the younger George is trying SO hard to succeed where his father failed.

The fact remains.  There seems to be evidence that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing.  The debate is whether this will bring warming or cooling.  Will it be beneficial or detrimental to mankind?  Finally, with man's activity accounting for less than 2% of the earth's carbon cycle, how can man do anything to reverse it?

Bush caved on taxes when he signed $1.2 billion instead of the original 1.6 that he said was his last and best offer to the Democrats.

Bush caved on the education bill, and Kennedy smiled, grinning from ear to ear.

Bush caved on the farm bill.  This means higher costs of about four  grand for every family in America.

Bush caved on steel subsidies and tariff protection.  This means another $300 a year in higher prices for every American.

Bush caved on closing the borders, and he wants to have more amnesty for illegal aliens.

Bush caved to liberals by keeping Manetta in DOT.  We can be assured that now a knitting needle toting grandma has an equal chance of being strip-searched with an unemployed, cash-paying, one-way-flying, visa-over-staying 20-something Saudi Arab.  And PILOTS can't carry firearms.

Bush caved in on Israel's police action after the kamikaze bombings.

Bush caved on meeting with Arafatso.  Bush shored up this lying, two-faced scum of a human being.

Bush caved on meeting with the Saudi King whose mosques and news media spew anti-American hate at every turn.

Bush caved in on the "Patriot Bill" with its federalizing of the shoe-clerks who handle airport security checks.  Now it's safe to fly?.

And the CIA and FBI still can't talk to each other.  They had plenty of information.  Witness the fact that within hours, our spooks told us who the bad guys were, where they were from, what they had been doing, and how they had done it). What our domestic spies needed was the communication and analysis.

Of course, the guts to buck the Arab American Anti-Discrimination League would help.  It seems that the only time they squawk after 9/11 was when they were trying to make sure that some vigilante didn't flame their tails.  The PC will kill us all.

With conservative friends like George Bush, who needs any enemies?  Maybe it's time for us all to start learning Arabic and praying to Muhammad for our salvation.

Public School Problems

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Wayne Johnson, a talking head for the California Teachers Association, has been doing institutional advertising on many talk stations to require more teacher input in the running of schools. He blames politicians, bureaucrats, and administrators for the problems with the schools. He deftly avoids the fact that virtually all these very same left wing politicians, bureaucrats, and administrators were put into office or elected with the full force and backing of his own organization over the past 40 years or so.
Talk about chutzpah!

Israel's Colonialism

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

One of the arguments that anti-American liberals make about the support of Israel is that Israel is behaving like a traditional colonial power.  They are subjugating an indigenous people.  They are failing to return conquered territory to the indigenous people.

Even an erstwhile conservative, Pat Buchannan has made this argument.  Poor Pat has finally lost it.  He is sounding more and more like a jerk.  He recently chose to use the use of terrorism in some colonial struggles to justify its use against Israel and America.

In the case of the Mau Mau uprising against the British, the Mau Mau did not want the British Isles and London.  In the case of the Algerians against  the French: The Algerians did not want France and Paris. (Of course with all the Muslim immigration they may yet get it).

In the case of the Palestinian Arabs against the Palestinian Jews: The Palestinian Arabs DO want all of Israel and Jerusalem.  The Palestinian Arabs' own communications and leaders say so.  So does does much opinion and news from the rest of the Muslim World.

Perhaps the answer is to give back the West Bank to Jordan.  After all, that was who owned it before the six-day war in 1967.  Then the Gaza Strip can be given back to Egypt.  Then the Arabs in Palestine can direct their terrorism to the REAL source of their misery: other Arabs.

The Secret Word:

Excommunication

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Former Catholics should know that the question of what to do to the pedophile priests, should not be defrock or not. Defrocking should be a "given." The proper question should be, "are the miscreants to be excommunicated."
As you may know from some of my earlier letters, I am a Jehovah's Witness Elder. We delete (remove from the list of servants) if a servant reverts to a bad habit like smoking.  If that individual showed no remorse or repentance, he would be disfellowshipped from the congregation.
In terms of pedophilia, the accusation would be enough to delete. Then the situation would be investigated by a committee of three. If the allegation was shown to be true, the individual would be reproved and restricted. If he showed a spirit of repentance he would not be disfellowhipped, but one of the elements that would show his repentance would be his surrender to the police to take his legal lumps. Were he not to do that, he would be disfellowshipped (shunned or expelled) from the Christian Congregation, former elder, or not. We would also let him know that if he did not turn himself in voluntarily, we would be bound to do so.

A WORD FROM THE DARK SIDE

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Since I have the best web presence of anybody I know who engages in the activities I do, I often get e-mail inquiries from around the world.  I make no bones these days about my refusal to work for Muslims.  In response to one such inquiry, I wrote:

I will not work for Muslims until...

Until the lying, blood libel propaganda against America STOPS, and your radical friends and associates are reined in and convinced that terror against peaceful civilian populations is incompatible with Islam.

I received the following response, which I believe represents the opinion of the rank and file in the Muslim world.

As those who wanted "peace at any price" or "peace in our time" ignored what was being propagandized in German in the lat 1930's, so, many are ignoring what is being propagandized in Arabic and Farsi, today.

That propaganda has been effective.  Here is what one in the rank and file responded:

Hi, Friend

I HOPE YOU BE TOO BRAVE TO READ MY LETTER UNTIL THE
END.
ISLAM IS A REALY DIRTY RELIGION AND WE ARE IN DIRT BECAUSE WE ARE LIVING IN AN ISLAMIC COUNTRY.
BUT YOU ARE THE MOST DIRTY IN THE WORLD.
BECAUSE, YOU LIVE UNDER YOKE OF THE PUTREFIED SOCIETY OF JEW.
THIS IS EXACTLY CLEAR IN ALL OF YOUR LIFE , IN YOUR POLICY AND YOUR THINKING MANNER.
I AM SORRY FOR YOU FRIEND BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT CHANGE YOURSELF, BECAUSE YOUR PERSONALITY IS UNDER YOKE OF THE FUCK JEWS.
YOU ARE SO DIRTY, BECASE EVEN YOUR PRESIDENT IS UNDER YOUKE OF JEW.
JEW IS YOUR LEADER AND YOU CAN NEVER MAKE YOURSELF FREE.
MEANWHILE, ALL US ARE LAUFING TO NOW BECAUSE OF YOUR CHEAP MIND.
THE BUSINESS IS BUSINESS AND WE HAVE DIRECT BUSINESS WITH MANY OF AMERICAN COMPANIES JUST NOW.
WE ARE REALY SORRY FOR SOME BODY WHO IS KILLED IN YOUR COUNTRY ON 11TH OF SEP.
BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT DOSE YOUR GOVERMENT ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN AROUND THE WORLD?
PLEASE BE AEQUITABLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND THE OTHERS.
REGARDS
MS. ELHAM

All I can say, Ms. Elham, is that you would be so much better off, if you lived under the thumb of the Jews, yourself.  Incidently, you believe too much of Arabic propaganda.

And, I suppose, Jesus WAS a Jew, after all.

BUSH INTELLIGENCE AFFIRMED

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Since George W. Bush began his run for the Presidency, Democrats have been trying to paint him as an idiot.  They have ignored the fact that his post graduate college shows a better record than that of Al Gore.

The implication was that Dubya was not smart enough to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Now we know the truth.  Dubya is not smart enough to watch T-V and eat pretzels at the same time.

The Presidential Pratfall has become a tradition.  The jokes were endlessly made about Jerry Ford.  Even the Honorable William Jefferson Blythe Clinton had a good stairway fall when visiting with some of his fat cat supporters in Florida.

APPALLING IGNORANCE

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

I read a very depressing letter to the editor the other day.  I was so depressed by its content that I have waited until today to comment.

The writer stated in no uncertain terms that after the attack of 9/11, she was afraid to fly.  Then she said that since airport security has been federalized, she will begin flying again, immediately, since it is now safe, the day after the federalization measure passed.

Just like turning on a light switch, "poof," it is now safe to fly.  I think this letter writer should use her frequent flyer mileage on Air Tajikistan for a trip to Kabul, ASAP.  But don't blame her, she voted for Clinton.

Lady, get a grip.  Airport security has been "federalized" for the past 20 years or so.  The FAA has specified the terms for inspections, personnel, and procedures.  They have set the standards and have tested them.  The kamikazes who caused 9/11 were passed through because they went right under the Federal standards regarding knives, and it is not politically correct to inquire about a bunch of last minute Arab nationals, some with one-way tickets, and a bunch of box knives.  If there was a failure, it was because the Federal workers already on the payroll screwed up.

The current federalization does not fully go into effect for two years.  Most of the workers now doing the screening will be the ones to be federally hired.  So now we will be screened by the likes of postal clerks: slow, overpaid, sullen, unhelpful, largely hired to meet political goals, and virtually impossible to fire for incompetence.  We should have all the out-of-work Aeroflot apparatchiks as screeners.

And a PS.  The screeners are now confiscating nail files, clippers, sewing kits, and anything else sharp from passengers in the name of safety.  The report from Afghanistan that the CIA agent who was murdered in the prison riot was beaten, kicked, and bitten to death brings pause.  Henceforth, the only people permitted on American airliners will be quadruple amputees who leave their dentures at the gate.

EARTH TO BUSH, EARTH TO BUSH!

WAR IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT!

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

I do not support governmental wars at all.  However, if wars must be waged, they should be waged on all fronts and waged to win.  Grousing about a few civilian casualties is not the way to wage a war.

The idea of running humanitarian relief efforts at the same time as a war is going on is patently absurd.  Two reasons:  any aid can be adulterated or compromised for propaganda purposes.  Any aid can be co-opted by the enemy.  Any efforts in the humanitarian area should be on the propaganda front.  Radio and printed messages should be aimed at the populace.  The messages should say, "You are in danger from this war as long as the Taliban remain in power.  Aid or assistance to them make YOU the enemy.  They will be shot at and bombed wherever they are.  If the Taliban are with YOU, YOU will be shot at and bombed. After the Taliban are destroyed, you will be fed, housed, and clothed, and your country will be repaired.  Allah be praised, and have a nice day!"

No radios?  Drop them, and tuned to American propaganda, of course.  Illiterate population?  Use sound-chip bearing greeting cards.  What's this?  Hallmark becomes a defense contractor?  Madison Avenue, Kabul!

It must be pointed out that everybody in Afghanistan is a civilian.  There are few, if any, regular governmental forces.  Therefore the daily count of civilian casualties is meaningless except for interfering in the conduct of the war and feeding anti-US propaganda in America and abroad.

To handle this problem there should be a two-pronged attack.  Firstly, any official who says a word to the press should state that there WILL be civilian casualties.  The US regrets them as we regret killing anybody.  No apologies should be offered  The enemy will be shot at and bombed wherever they are.  Secondly, any news agency that continues the incessant carping about civilian casualties will not be privy to any official briefings or news releases about the war.

I believe that the American people are angry enough to deal with the bad news.  They also know that half a war is worse than none at all.  The Bushies should realize that the mainstream press is the enemy just as much as the Taliban.  That press will try to sabotage this war just as they sabotaged the war in Viet Nam (granted that war was run stupidly, as well).

MORE AVENGE THE CRUSADES!

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

In yesterday's commentary I mentioned most of the locations where the Muslim world is in terror-oriented conflict with the rest of the world.  I neglected to mention Eritrea, Java, and Indonesia.

A question to those who want the United States out of the Muslim world:  Would the folks in that part of the world be better off under an authoritarian monarchy like Saudi Arabia or an authoritarian republic like Egypt?  Would they all be better off under a totalitarian regime like Iraq.  Would they be better off under a totalitarian theocracy like Iran or Afghanistan?

10/16/2001

AVENGE THE CRUSADES!

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Over and over again, we have been hearing how if the United States just does everything the terrorist fundamentalist Muslims want, there will be no more terror.  We have all heard the familiar litany:  Let Israel be destroyed, pack up from the Arabian Peninsula, stop cozying up to Egypt and other Muslim states.  Why is it America's fault and why do Muslims claim injustice that dates back to the Crusades.

The fact is that there is a holy war going on.  The Muslims have started it.  It was started when the military forces of Islam swarmed over the middle east and the Mediterranean basin.  The Crusades were a reaction to these attacks as Muslims murdered, raped, sacked, and pillaged their way into Israel, Syria, Turkey, and across Northern Africa and into the Iberian Peninsula, and over the Bosporus and into the Baltic region.  Syria, Turkey (Anatolia), and what had been the entire Byzantine Empire and substantial parts of the Roman Empire were falling under the sword.  Most of these areas were thriving centers of Christendom, both Orthodox and Roman. The "Blue Mosque" in Istanbul is only the most dramatic example where Orthodox churches have been converted to mosques.  While there are examples of forced conversion to Christianity, the early conversion was done by the war of ideas as the generally attractive doctrine of Christianity made its way into the hearts and minds of the populations.

The war goes on.  One need only look at a map to see where the most savage conflicts on the planet are.  They are at the fringes of the Muslim empire.  The Philippines, Malaysia, Kashmir, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Egypt, Israel, the Sudan, Nigeria, Serbia.  What the Muslims cannot win with their ideas it seems they are trying to win by force of arms.

When one tries to obtain a visa into Saudi Arabia, one of the more "moderate" Muslim states, one must check one's religion at the border.  Saudi visa requirements run against the universal rights of religious freedom.  Refusal of responsible members of Muslim governments, clergy or secular authority to actively and vociferously condemn the acts of 9/11 or root out the bands of murderous thugs that move freely within Arab borders, shows that any non-Muslim should fear for his life when venturing within such territory.

Without the force of arms and terror, Islam will cease to exist.

I, for one,  will no longer accept any employment in the Muslim world.

VIOLENCE NEVER SOLVES ANYTHING

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

Some good thoughts have been written on the issue of "violence never solves anything." America fights wars for the same reason that government is empowered to do things that individual citizens generally are not allowed to do.

The government can rob (fine), kidnap (imprison), or murder (execute) miscreants to ensure that they behave in an acceptable manner or punish them when they do not.  Citizens can by petition also use this government force to redress grievances.  Somebody needs the power to enforce the dicta and behavioral norms of society.

Even schoolyard bullies are rational to some extent. They realize that if there is some significant risk of injury from bullying a particular person, they will leave that person alone. Often the way to show the bully that that risk exists is to use force. Words are an empty threat and will not be heeded. Even if the bully-ee loses the resulting fight, the bully will realize that it is not productive or gratifying to continue to bully that particular victim. Often the bully will be so overwhelmed by the ferocity of the counterattack that he will lose the fight or retreat to safety.

The same can be said of any enemy of anyone. Force must sometimes be judiciously applied. Usually it is not enough to verbally threaten or to just throw one punch and run. There must be sustained application of force until the enemy loses the will to pursue the victim.

Clinton's cruise missile attacks in response to the terrorist acts were useless for this reason. No real injury or evidence of resolve was delivered to the terrorists.

TAKING TO THE AIR AT LAX.

Jay W. Preston, Los Angeles

In the wake of the attack on New York, I had an itch to get into the air again.  I guess that’s where my son, Yujin, got his fatal attraction for flying.  I have always enjoyed flying, even though I never had an inkling to become a pilot, myself.

With the President urging everybody to fly, I felt the need to do my patriotic duty and get into the air. But where?  I had been thinking about taking a jaunt to somewhere I had never set foot, so I decided to go to South Dakota.  I have wanted to see Mount Rushmore, and a family connection has given me more than a passing interest in the "Sunshine State."

My schedule cleared for two days last week, so on Tuesday night, I logged onto "ual.com" to schedule a flight to Pierre (pronounced "Pier" by South Dakotans) from LAX for Wednesday morning.  It was six AM on a big Boeing to Denver and then by a 19-seat Beech Craft to Pierre.  The ticket would have cost me nearly two grand, but with the planes flying half empty, I was able to cash in 25,000 United Frequent Flyer Miles, and I had my E-ticket confirmation printed out on my printer in a few minutes.  I was even able to book window seats for all the legs.

A while back, I had decided that anything less than 500 miles is a driving trip.  This is not because I am shaking in my boots, but because the hassle of check-in and the potential for delays is just so goofy. Actually, flying now is probably the safest it will ever be.  The paradigm has shifted. Now everybody knows that if a hijacking happens, the passengers will all die, and all the miscreants will have for arms is box knives.  I think it will be optional whether to beat them to death or simply make them a courtroom exhibit to demonstrate compound fractures.

I had a bit of trepidation about the heightened security at LAX. They no longer allow private cars into the terminal loop of World Way, so all the parking lot shuttles are free to move at maximum efficiency through the area.  I parked in Lot-C close to the lot terminal.  No problem.

I decided to use one carry-on bag, only, and not check anything.  For a pleasure trip this is possible for me.  On a business trip, I have to carry such a nightmare of hardware in my briefcase that it would be impossible.  What with the spring scale, combination square, inclinometer and transit, triangles, light meter, camera and right angle finder, tape measure, and a five-pound weight that looks like a block of C-4 explosive, I look like a well dressed South Moluccan Terrorist.  For this trip, I didn’t carry anything more threatening than a pen and keys.

United allows computer check-in with an E-ticket if there are no bags to check.  A dozen machines are overseen by one agent.  I stuck in my VISA card, which was not read.  I tried another terminal that was able to read my card, and then I talked to the computer and answered all the inane questions that a ticket agent would ask.  You know the ones. "Did you pack it yourself." "Did anyone give you anything to carry for them."  And so on.  Blah, blah, blah.  After that, I simply went through the scanner and had to put everything through the x-ray machine.  I wasn’t packing heat, so I whisked right through.  The light volume and the fact that most folks knew not to bring anything sharp made the security clearance a breeze.  Seventeen minutes was all it took from the lot through the checkpoint.  It should be noted that without the private cars dropping and picking at the terminals, the shuttle buses zoom right in.

The flight was uneventful to Denver.  It was even less eventful from Denver to Pierre.  Lots of room was available on the planes.  It was less crowded and hectic than any flights I have been on in years.

We got off the plane in Pierre and were met by two National Guard grunts with full battle gear.  They had camouflage fatigues and fully loaded M-16's.  I understand that the Pentagon is ordering camouflage fatigue sets for the new war.  They will make the soldiers look like carry on luggage. Zippers, handles, large pockets, optional wheels, and plastic bags.

That will keep the folks happy.  The word is that the military nixed their order for invisible paint because the last batch made the Special Ops people in Afghanistan look too conspicuous.

Anyway, I picked up my rental car from Avis.  I started moving toward the counter, and the counter man greeted my by name.  I got one of two cars. I was the only Avis customer for the day.  I was given a brand new small Chevy with 420 miles on it.  It came in beautiful "monkey barf" green.

I returned to the Pierre Airport where I turned in my car with my total of about 930 miles on it.  I accomplished pretty much all that I wanted to do.  I got into the air.  I did my family research.  I saw South Dakota and set foot and drove in North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.  I saw Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, and a good chunk of the Black Hills.

The best was yet to come.  The security at Pierre was amazing.  They required each coat to go through the x-ray machine.  They needed to open up my case because of my souvenir refrigerator magnets.  They even required all the men to pull off belts and run them through the x-ray.  I was the last one through.  Again the plane was quite empty.

We were about 30 minutes late getting into Denver because of a bad head wind.  I arrived about five minutes late for an earlier flight into LAX.  The Denver to LAX flight was uneventful and pleasant because of the uncrowded nature of the passenger load.  This time it was a half empty 737.

And that was that. I deplaned and had only one more surprise.  The LAX Shuttle for Lot-C now goes direct to the terminal and pick-up point in the lot, rather than making intermediate stops in the parking lot. Since I was expecting to get off at the first stop from the bus, I had parked in that section "A" as usual.  I had to trudge back to get back to my car and drive home.

WAR FEARS RISE

September 21, 2001

Chemical Weapons Concerns

Around the virtual water cooler in my office, there have been some concerns raised about the potential use of chemical weapons.

I composed this little "Ode to CBR" (Chemical Biological Radiological war)

bullet

CBR is such delight.

bullet

It makes us scream and hide in fright.

bullet

But we all know we need a mask.

bullet

All we need is just to ask.

bullet

Their cannisters all are colored gaily.

bullet

We need a fresh one almost daily.

bullet

Perhaps each one could save some lass.

bullet

For we all know that war's a gas.

I have come to develop two more explanations of the Chandra Levy disappearance.

Bill Clinton sent her out for cigars......................to Havana.

She went sailing with JFK............................In the Bermuda Triangle.

Weapons Deployed to Middle East

President Bush is sending many of America's most sophisticated and deadly weapons off o The Middle East.  The long list includes B-1 bombers, F-14s and stealth fighters.  Apparently B-52's are on their way to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.  The Teddy Roosevelt carrier battle group is on its way to the Mediterranean (this deployment had been planned long before).  The 101st Airborne is shipping out from North Carolina.

One interesting point needs to be made.  There has been no placement of logistical support among the announced deployments.  The Reserves have been called up, and these handle logistics like transport and air-to-air refueling, but there has yet been none of the logistical build-up that characterized the Gulf War.

This leads a rational man to think that something covert is going on.  In the words of Conan Doyle, "The Game is afoot!"

In the mean time:

Take a Muslim to lunch, today!

WHAT TO DO ABOUT NEW YORK

Politicians Restrict Freedoms While Doing Nothing

A few thoughts on the act of war.

There can be no doubt that the attack by terrorists was a catastrophe. The best protection is that now, for the first time, there will be an assumption that a hijacking will mean all aboard will die. This means that if the machine guns are kept off the planes, the hijackers will be engulfed and overcome by irate passengers.

Cooperation or appeasement has always been the way to deal with such events. No longer will it be. Standard procedure must now be to get the aircraft on the ground as soon as possible. The cockpit must not be penetrated. Put up Kevlar wallpaper and put a dead bolt on the cockpit door. Make sure that pilots lock it behind them if they come out to use the head. Keep the required fire axe handy.

And now the Taliban holds most of the cards. Afghans are the world’s fiercest mountain fighters on some of the worst, most inhospitable and remote terrain on the planet. To engage in a war under those circumstances would be worse than the Wehrmacht going into Switzerland in WWII. Those Germans even spoke one of the Swiss languages.

A first step will be to stop any aid to that country. I hope the check can be stopped on the $43 million that Bush promised a few weeks ago. While we are at it, we should stop foreign aid to everybody in the area. The money can be used to beef up our own borders and improve our surveillance on any Muslims that do not pledge allegiance to the USA.

As for domestic situations, virtually all of the security measures being taken, particularly here at LAX, would not have deterred hijackers of the type of 911. They were ticketed passengers! They had small knives. So they can’t get their box cutters and pocket knives through security? Pick up some knives from the airline silverware. Pick up knives from one of the restaurants in the concourse. Use something of plastic like the dreaded "CIA Letter Opener." Or use something that looks like a pen, or the frames from some glasses.

The time has come for some serious racial profiling. These hijackers fit the profile perfectly, but PC prevents any measures along these lines. After all, if you ask Muslims if they know any Muslim terrorists or vocal anti-USA folk, it is impermissible discrimination. Get rid of the prohibition against hiring criminals to go after the bad guys. When you go after the Capo di tuti capi, you may have to use a Mafioso or two.

As to what to do with the WTC site.  Bulldoze all the rubble into the harbor to make a "Peace Island."  Rebuild the WTC to make the skyline as in my rendition of "New York Skyline - 2007."  Much of the rubble of German cities was just piled up and pushed aside to be turned into parks.  We should do the same.

Representative Lee is Right!

Representative Barbara Lee is the only member of Congress to vote against giving President Bush the authorization to go to war against terrorists.  She said she did so because of her belief that a state of war should only be initiated by a declaration of war.

This is a stand that is in keeping with the Constitution.  We can only hope that Ms. Lee's new-found devotion to strict construction of the Constitution is based on her understanding of the Framers' intent and not due to subversive intent brought about by the fact that she represents Berkeley (or Jerkley or Berserkley), the hotbed of PC liberal socialism.

LEVY DISAPPEARANCE EXPLAINED

August 26, 2001

Intern on Lam -- Still Missing

The latest revelation in the Chandra Levy disappearance comes from the interview of Gary Condit by Connie Chung on Thursday.  He thought she was on the train to Chicago.  She was.  She was on the New York Central.

This may just be the visible part of a new Underground Railroad.  I have dubbed this means of spiriting Congressmen to safety and permanently out of Washington, "The Condit Conduit."

Seriously, folks, after the performance of Thursday by Mr. Condit, can there be a single person on the planet who doesn't think that Condit knows something significant or participated in Ms. Levy's disappearance?

The trade unions in the California Central Valley are known for playing rough.  It is these same groups that provide a substantial amount of financial and logistical support for any local Democrat like Condit.  Even a casual conversation at the 19th hole of the Country Club could have set in motion the Levy situation.

LEVY DISAPPEARANCE EXPLAINED

August 6, 2001

Missing Intern Still at Large

Much has been reported, written, and aired about the Chandra Levy disappearance.  It is time for me to get on the ball and join the fray.

All have probably heard the rumor that Ms. Levy is partying with Elvis.  I want to set the record straight.  She is not with Elvis.  I don't know where she is, but I do have some suggestions that might explain her current whereabouts.

bulletShe is clerking for Judge Roy Beane.
bulletIt was Hillary, in the park, with the revolver.
bulletShe is on a shopping spree with D. B. Cooper.
bulletShe went to a party with Teddy Kennedy.
bulletShe had a lunch date with Jeffrey Dahmer.
bulletShe is clerking for Judge Crater.
bulletShe is in labor negotiations with Jimmy Hoffa.
bulletShe is now Dr. Kevorkian's receptionist
bulletHannibal Lector had more chianti.
bulletShe dated Chad from Florida.
bulletThe congressman bumped her off because she was a political liability.

And so it goes.  All the news that fits, we print.

ASHCROFT CONDEMNED

July 8, 2001, Los Angeles. Jay W. Preston

Liberals Criticize AG for Destroying Records

Attorney General John Ashcroft has been widely criticized by the Liberal Media for moving up the destruction date for firearms purchase records.  This is to be expected.  The Liberals keep harping on the need to keep these records for crime fighting.

I have news for you Liberal folks out there.  Those records are not to be kept.  BY LAW they are to be destroyed as soon as their purpose is fulfilled.  That purpose is for the background check to allow the purchase of a weapon.  The law requires that the records not be kept.  The law requires that the records must be destroyed shortly thereafter.

You Liberals want the records kept?  Write a new law and see if it gets passed and signed.

The Attorney General and any other Government official is required to abide by the law.  That is, however, unless he is or is perceived to be a radical Liberal.  Think of Ted Kennedy and homicide, Kennedy and Inoue on sexual harassment, Clinton on slander, libel, perjury and a whole host of others, Clinton and Gore on campaign financing, and Janet Reno on a few items that had her FBI chief going apoplectic.

SUMMER READING

July 2, 2001, Los Angeles. Jay W. Preston

Celebrate July 4!  Read The Communist Manifesto

Few have actually READ the Communist Manifesto. I did not do so in any of my history or government classes. I devote today’s column to a score card. Here are the ten points of the Manifesto. Today's internet makes it easy to find the Manifesto, or other subversive writings (Mein Kampf also comes to mind).  You can read them in the comfort of your own home with the same ease as other pornography

bullet1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

This is what property taxes are. Name them "rents to the state."

bullet2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

This is a given. The rates have been reduced, but taxes still confiscate about 50% of incomes.

bullet3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

Rates in excess of 50%. There may be some hope on this front.

bullet4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

This is asset forfeiture. Try taking more than 10G’s out of the country without a permit or see what happens when somebody strews some marijuana seeds on your property.

bullet5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

This is the Federal Reserve System.

bullet6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in he hands of the state.

Trying to get us out of our cars to put us into mass transit. The FCC certainly has a handle on Federalization of the airwaves.

bullet7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

The department of Agriculture pretty much determines the nature.

bullet8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

OBLIGATION? How about necessity?

bullet9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.

This is being caused by the decay of the cities.

bullet10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.

Elimination of child labor makes children a significant liability. We can see what a source of liberal indoctrination public education has become.

An argument can be made that the accomplishment of the above goals has been a mixed bag. One thing that must be remembered is that most of the changed conditions required by the manifesto call for the individuals to act against their own best interest. This requires the use of force.

College President Defends Liar

June 19, 2001, Los Angeles. Jay W. Preston

A startling admission by her premier historian that he had never served in Vietnam caused the President of Mount Holyoke, Joanne V. Creighton, to defend her historian by attacking the newspaper that broke the news. She said, "we at the college do not understand what public interest the Globe is trying to serve by a story of this nature."

Let me bring it to your attention, Ms. Creighton. THE PUBLIC INTEREST IS TRUTH.

Let us leave for the moment that the opinions and world view of somebody who served with the 101st Airborne and teaches history courses about the Vietnam War may differ just a bit from that of someone who sat out the war teaching history at West Point. This fact may seriously impact on issues of loyalty, duty, honor, patriotism, and a whole array of other attitudes that are important to the understanding of the whole Vietnam episode. The foremost value of a newspaper must be to tell the truth. This is why truth is an absolute defense against charges of libel and slander. Every newspaper, indeed every person, should be aware that the truth is important. We should all just shut up rather than telling a lie.

Too often the truth is ignored because the lie is told for some "noble" purpose. We must get back to the unembellished truth. The sooner, the better. Otherwise the lies will get bigger and bigger until nobody will know what the definition of "is" is.

As for Ms. Creighton, let the firings begin with her. She clearly doesn’t understand that the purpose for higher education is to seek the truth.

Irresponsibility Hits New Highs

(Part II)

June 6, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Philip Morris, today got hit by big punitive damages to a lifelong smoker.  The smoker was tied down and forced to smoke against his will for 40 years or more.

Again the issue is that PM lied about the dangers of smoking.  The issue should be that the smoker should have known about the dangers from other sources including the warnings on the packs.

Juries and liberal lawyers don't like liars (Unless they are liberals).  I have seen this time after time in courtrooms.  But that should be no excuse to turn the legal system on its head.

A lawful product that has been in use for hundreds of years, with the blessings of the government. in essentially its present form, should not be the victim of today's product liability lawsuits.

It doesn't much matter whether Philip Morris lied or not. Warnings have been on the cigarette packs for nearly 40 years. From the 1920's when doctors were used to sell cigarettes, everybody knew smoking was bad for them and cigarettes were known as "coffin nails" or "cancer sticks." My dad died at 78 after a virtual 2-pack habit for 60 years. He died from liver disease from his drinking.  The fact remains that people who use chemical substances must accept some responsibility for their own choices. We will all wind up paying for the costs whenever we buy any PM product from Miller Brewing or Kraft Foods. The government has already profited richly from all the taxes collected by encouraging smoking.

The simple thing is to ban tobacco products since they are so dangerous and victims are so helpless to stop using them.  The governments won't stand for that.  They need the tax money.  Of course, they will have to stop the tobacco subsidies, first.

I'd like so see somebody sue some of the growers.  Al Gore II, himself, sowed it, thinned it, hoed it, cut it, hung it, dried it, bundled it, and sent it off to do its murderous work.  Of course bloodthirsty liberal lawyers would never sue the growers.  In spite of massive subsidies and price controls, there's no money there.

Irresponsibility Hits New Highs

May 28, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

On this Memorial Day, we are supposed to give honor to those who fought in the Wars of the United States of America.  These people fought for Americans' independence, liberty and freedom.  The irony is that everywhere we look, people are turning their backs on that very same independence, liberty, and freedom.

One example appears in the Los Angeles Times for today.  There on the front page of the "California" section.  There we find the tragic story of a thirty-year-old man who went to a shooting range, rented a shotgun, and blew himself away in a suicide.  The parents of this poor soul, who apparently suffered from paranoia and a number of other mental disorders, believe that the shooting range should have screened their customer better.

These misguided parents believe that shooting ranges should screen their gun renters to the same degree that a gun purchaser requires.  Don't get me wrong, even though I am a heartless conservative.  There have been about a dozen suicides at California's shooting ranges since 1995.  However, the range where the recent, politically connected, suicide viewed the suicide victim as a good regular customer.  They screened him a month or so ago with the battery of questions (to the one on mental illness, he answered, "no").  I am sure they went over the safety issues.  I am sure they required his driver's license before they handed over the shotgun.  He had driven five miles down the freeway to get to the range on the fateful day.

The question rises.  How could anybody refuse handing over a gun which is a right, when the state put no restrictions on the privilege of driving?  It seems to me that driving, which exposes tens of thousands of persons as well as the driver to horrible death and maiming each day is far more worthy of additional screening.  That way the crazy one could not have reached the shooting range.

Another example is an ad that the California Association of Healthcare Providers is running to encourage higher salaries for the caregivers.  That is a fine idea.  We all could use more money.  You whining lady of the ad, just fork over so your mom will have better care.  Don't try to force the rest of us through government and taxes do it for you.

Finally, in a letter to the Editor, there was the usual liberal lament.  Sob, wah, wah, the tax cut rebates would be so much better spent on health care, children, and the whole liberal laundry list litany.  Got some news.  Put your check in an envelope and send it back.  Of course it will cost you thirty-four cents in postage.

Dennis Tito Flight nears Finale!

First "Space Tourist" Soon to Return to Earth!

May 5, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Dennis Tito, the world's first "Space Tourist" is due to return soon to the earth.  In spite of NASA's official chagrin, I don't think Tito's feet will ever touch the ground again.  Who can blame him.  He will have completed a journey that has heretofore been the private preserve of jet jockeys with the "Right Stuff" and junketing Senators.

Mr. Tito, you are no less a pioneer than Charles Lindbergh.  You are no less a pioneer than Rutan and Yeager who piloted Voyager around the world on one tank of fuel.  You are no less a pioneer than Ross Perot's Son flying a helicopter around the world (the logistics of that one make me shudder).  You are no less a pioneer than many private citizens who have braved the unknown to set records and achieve heights hitherto unheard of.

It is true that the infrastructure was in place for you to make the trip.  Government apparatchiks have made the journey before you.  But YOU had the guts and gumption to actually attempt it.  You had the nugas to actually go through the rigors of Russian Cosmonaut training.  You had the industry and ingenuity to see that you achieved your dream.  Bill Gates and the rest of the super rich youngsters are still on the ground.

Other dreamers had infrastructure in place, too.  Somebody had to build "Lucky Lindy's" plane and produce the fuel and the airstrip for him to take off and fly to Paris.

In one sense, your venture is nothing new.  The Russians have been selling tickets for rides in their hottest flying machines for years.  One of my son's dreams was to fly at Mach 2.  The way he planned to do it was to buy a ticket for a ride in a Mig 29.  Should a Soyuz be any different?

Mr. Tito, you exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and freedom that has made America great.  The only irony is that you had to buy your ticket from the Russians.  If this tweaks the nose of NASA, so be it!

Your next challenge, Mr. Tito (should you choose to accept it), is to work to bring the cost of space flight down to the point where a large number of touring Americans and other free capitalists can afford it.

Here's to you Mr. Tito!

Jehovah's Witnesses Gather

April 8, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide will be commemorating the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ tonight.  They will gather together as Jesus and his disciples did in that upper room on the night of the full moon closest to the vernal equinox (Nisan 14).  They will pass unleavened bread and pure wine as Jesus did.  They will do this is response to his command, "Do this in remembrance of me."

Power Short -- Not Power Less.

April 6, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

In his best five minute sound bite to date, Gray Davis showed his solid leadership and grasp of the power crisis in California.  He gave the basic outline of a nebulous plan that would raise rates and save the state.  In response, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) filed for bankruptcy.

The Davis plan is apparently designed to teach something that most of us learned in kindergarten or at least in Econ 101.  This stirring truth is that "If you use more electricity, you will pay more.  If you use less electricity, you will pay less."

All I can say is, "What a concept."

And now all the California bureaucrats can determine what is a "fair" price for electricity.

Chinese Fire on Orion

April 6, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Our Asian correspondent, Elika Preston relates that Taiwan is reporting that after "Wrong Way" Wang Wei, the Chinese pilot who collided with the Nave EP-3, his wing man opened fire on it.  It may be this firing that caused the aircraft to land on Hainan Island, rather than a less hostile location or a ditching at sea.

Elika reports:  Some of the former Auxiliary Language Teachers (ALTs) who are now working in Taiwan were saying that Taipei was tracking the collision between the spy plane and fighter. The word is that the second jet actually fired on the plane after the first one went down. They say that this is not being reported in the US because it would force a strong response. Think this is just Taiwan hoping to make China look even worse and ensure their arms buying?

This looks plausible to this writer.  Wang's plane gets shredded by the Orion's props, and His wing man thinks it is the result of hostile action.  This could be the basis of China's insistence that the U.S.A. issue an apology for the incident.  Maybe they really think that their plane went down due to some hostile act by America.

It remains to see how this plays out.  For my money, I think Bush is playing it just about right, but I would be moving a carrier battle group and lots of submarines into the area around Hainan Island by this point.  I would definitely be moving in the direction of lifting China's most favored nation trade status.

Poor Bush is looking more and more like Hoover and Clinton is looking more like Coolidge.  The problem is:  Will it take a world war to get us out of the depression, and who will play FDR and Truman?  Maybe Daschle and Gephardt?

Why are "Little Guys" still in the Stock Market?

April 4, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

The stock averages continue to drop.  The dot-com binge is looking more and more like the tulip mania of the 18th century.

The economy is not running on fundamentals.  It is running on the speculative bubble of a whole new industry.  It looks like the dot-com industry has gone through its entire life cycle in less than a single decade.

To date the small investors are still in the market.  They have not yet panicked.  The question is, "Why?"

The reason that the rank and file of the little guys aren't panicking is the same reason that they don't know how much tax they are paying -- WITHHOLDING!

Their money is in mutual funds. Their money is in IRAs and Keough plans, pension plans of many kinds, and company ESORP plans. The little guy can't touch the money anyway, so it is out of sight and out of mind. The little guys perceive this the same way they see their tax bills. The money in the market is a complete abstraction.

One other factor is that all of the investment vehicles they are in prosper only long.  There are no shorts in pension plans.  Nobody participating in this market has experienced the bite of the bear.  They will have to learn it again, as their parents and grandparents before them.

It would be a good idea to have a comfortable gold stash.

Little Things Drive Us Crazy

April 3, 2001

George W. Bush, President of the United States

White House

Washington, D.C.

Dear President Bush:

Back at the height of the "Unabomber" hysteria, the Postal Service implemented some rules that I find very wasteful of my time and disruptive to my life. These required any parcel over 1.5 pounds mailed with stamps to be handed over at the post office counter for mailing.

Now, I have to mail a lot of deposition booklets due to my practice as a safety engineer expert witness. I prefer to use stamps on these parcels for the color, ease of denominating, economy, and convenience. Most of these parcels are at or above the 1.5 pound figure.

It seems to me that bombers would be content to keep bombs at the 1.5 pound limit, or steal or borrow postage meter stickers for postage on bigger bombs. The rule does nothing but inconvenience the law-abiding, while providing no additional security from, or deterrence to, would-be bombers.

It seems to me that if I hand over a parcel to my regular route carrier at my address, and it bears my own return address, that there would be sufficient protection for the public. Of course, this would require carriers to use some discretion when accepting a parcel, and maybe that is the problem.  Imagine,  giving postal workers discretion?

In any event, the change to allow any postal worker to accept a 1.5 pound parcel would provide equivalent safety as well as saving me 30 or so otherwise unnecessary trips to the post office each year, with the waste of fuel, time, and line-time that these trips entail.

Anything you could do to help would be appreciated.

Yours,

Jay W. Preston, CSP, PE

International "Safety" Standards

March 30, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

We are encouraged to adopt the rules of the World Health Organization.  These being that every country should be bound by the world's "safest" safety standards.  On the face of it, this sounds like a good idea.  The problem is that many of these standards are a result of political processes rather than science.  This is where Bill Clinton's arsenic-in-drinking-water standard came from.

Ridiculously low standards are fine as long as they are enforced and are realistically striven after. The dirty little secret is that the Communist World and most of the Anti-American Socialist Third World adopts the low standards with no plans to attain them themselves. They do it only to hobble the First World countries (particularly the USA) who actually try to meet safety and health standards.

We all should remember the visions of hell that we saw when the Berlin wall came down from around countries whose published safety, health, and environmental standards in most cases are far more stringent than in the USA.  The "doublespeak" behind the iron and bamboo curtains is legendary.

I have no problem with complying with more stringent standards with lower values for environmental pollutants, as long as the whole world makes a substantive effort to comply as well.  This is what the carbon dioxide reduction standard was all about.  "Paralyze the west.  It's the way to go.  Stop them from driving their cars while we must burn buffalo dung for hours at a time just to cook our rice."

It is a difficult thing to buck a safety and health or environmental standard. These things are like motherhood and apple pie. Lets say that a nation with no measurable arsenic in their water naturally, adopts a .01 ppm arsenic standard. They could, by doing so, cause the serious compliers to spend huge amounts of money for no viable purpose.

The situation is similar to the EPA Dissolved Solids standard which required municipal water supplies to reduce the DS by 1/3. In Alaska the water had no DS to reduce, so they allowed canneries to introduce DS so that that it could be reduced by 1/3 using cheap sedimentation and filtration. The result was dirtier water than before, because they were afraid to buck the EPA with the required lawsuit.

We have a similar bit of hysteria in California.  Thanks to the MOVIE, "Erin Brockovich," hexavalent chromium is the "chemical scare du jour.  Politicians are falling all over themselves the write new stricter standards to protect us from this new toxic threat.  It doesn't matter that the scientific community is still uncertain as to the nature of the threat and that most of the disease highlighted by the movie is not associated with hexavalent chromium at all.

The fact remains that the western countries are the safest, healthiest places to live on the planet.  When the third world rises to those standards, we can all follow the standards that they have written and made their statutory law.

Nickels and Dimes to Death

March 28, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

It is happening again.  The hounds are at full cry again!  This time everybody is screaming about a 30% increase in the price of electricity!  The call is going out that THEY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!  This is the same as the cry that went up to keep the banks from charging a fee for other banks' customers to use their ATM machines.  The ATM machine fee  was not nearly as large as the potential increase in electric bills.

It really doesn't matter.  No government has the right to determine what any company should charge for a commodity.  This is true even of a commodity as important as power.

The government could save us all a BIG chunk of money by cutting taxes to the bone and getting out of the things that they have no Constitutional authority to be in.  Then we could pay the 30% more for power.  We might even buy our own powerplants to make it ourselves.

Let's pounce on the REAL price gougers.  These are the folks we are FORCED to pay: our government.  Let's see them tighten their belts.

The last time I looked, even Ma Bell could not make like Ma Barker to force us to use and pay for her services by sending jack-booted thugs after us.

Preston Declines Run!

March 16, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Preston considers and declines run for California 32nd Congressional District.

Julian Dixon recently died, and that opened up the seat in the House of Representatives that he had occupied for 27 years. This leads to a thought of a run for the seat by this author.

Just the publicity would be worth a million dollars, even though with the potential of every politically prominent African American in the area giving it a run I would not stand a chance. My work needs publicity to thrive. Hence, it might be cost effective for me to run. Any Republican injecting himself into the middle of a black liberal feeding frenzy could be assured of a disproportionate amount of publicity.

Here are a few of the pros and cons.

There is no expectation that I could be successful in this black, gerrymandered district, so the run would be one for publicity and to raise my profile to the point that somebody might appoint me to a position that I might be suitably equipped for, like an appointed OSHA secretary position.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I could not run because it would compromise my Christian neutrality to do so.

My wife’s health would not survive such a run.

Were I to run, I could expect to run as "Jay William ‘Billy’ Preston," the safety engineer. As "Billy" Preston, I could expect some additional name recognition for the run.

Slogan: "Support the only honky in the race."

Here’s what I would have as my platform:

1. The Constitution of the United States of America, a very strict construction.

2. The Declaration of Independence.

3. Elimination of the personal income tax with funding of the Federal Government returned to its historic source: tariffs and duties.  This would serve to improve domestic employment as well as free the populace from oppressive Federal taxation.

4. Continuance of corporate income taxes.  Corporations do not "die."  Therefore, there must be a way to ensure that their produce is distributed to the public at large.

5. Elimination of inheritance and gift taxes.  The people should be free to dispose of their assets unfettered and free of government interference.

6. Full reversion of the Social Security System to voluntary status. Current rules would be applied. Benefits would be calculated based on today’s rules.

7. Continued funding of those activities specifically assigned to the Federal Government by the Constitution. (Courts, post roads and raising and maintaining the military come immediately to mind)

8. Encouraging the use of rapid transit lines for freight as well as for rush hour passengers. Encouraging interchangeability of equipment by lines that cross. Encouraging installation of change machine on vehicles or at stations (all part of interstate commerce).

9. Automatic entry of civil judgment against convicted criminals in favor of their victims.

10. An end to race based preferences.

11. Recognition of contracts for chemicals as being part of the contracting that states are forbidden from encumbering.

Global Warming in the News!

March 12, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Again the issue of global warming is hitting the presses.

The rise of carbon dioxide over the last thousand years is established.
The problem is that the overwhelming majority of the increase is attributed to the erosion of the carbonate rocks of the Himalayas.
The solution is easy. All we have to do is prevent Himalayan erosion. That should be easy. We just wrap them in plastic.

Problem solved.  But that still leaves us with those pesky volcanoes

Return to a Faith-based Bush

March 3, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

In ancient Israel, the King was to write out, in his own hand, the Torah or the books of the law.  Further, he was to read in it daily.

We all can appreciate how copying a manuscript can assist in our memory of it.  English copybooks have long been used in this way to impart knowledge of important ideas, tenets, and bits of good literature.

I propose that every President, Vice President, Senator, Representative, and Federal Judge be required to hand write a copy of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution.  This should be the minimum qualification for holding these offices.

These important works are far shorter than the Torah.  It would not pose much of a burden.  It might even encourage the office holders to adhere more closely to the ideas expressed.

Fat chance.

Questions on Gun Safety:

March 2, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Thanks to the best web presence of anyone in my profession, I get a lot of inquiries about safety subjects.  My site (www.safetybiz.com) has an unlinked page about firearm safety.  A search will find the page, and it generates questions.

Here is the latest question hot off the e-mail.  The frustrating thing is that she gave me a bad return address.

Date: 3/1/01 8:40:52 PM Pacific Standard Time

From: Vickie

To: prestonoid@aol.com

I'm going to ask you some questions on gun safety. I need the answers by tomorrow, March 2, 2001.

1 why do we need it?

2. What is it?

3. What does it do?

4. Who wanted it?

5. who does it protect?

6. The people it protects, are they black or white?

7. What year was it made a law or was there made laws about it?

Vickie

p.s. Hurry!!!!

As a life member in the National Rifle Association, gun safety is an important part of my life. The NRA is the largest (some would say "only") nationwide group that does anything about gun safety. They do so by sponsoring all manner of classes and training in gun use and safety for the likes of hunters, law enforcement, and other interested groups, and by promoting the "Eddie the Eagle" firearm safety program in the schools as well as sponsoring the shooting sports such as the Olympics as well as other groups like the shooting merit badges for the Boy Scouts.

Now to the questions:

1. "Gun safety" has become a buzz word used by liberals, socialists, and other proponents of government over the sovereignty of the individual as guaranteed in the Constitution. Hence the U.S. does not need more of it. All the restrictions that pro big government advocates propose are designed to hinder the freedom and sovereignty of individual lawful possessors of firearms.

2. Various schemes to put onerous restrictions on the individual possession of firearms. This includes licensing. registration, and possession restrictions. Of note is that a 1948 Supreme Court decision has held that Felons are not required to register their guns as to do so would compromise their right against self-incrimination. The laws liberals propose would not do anything to prevent such catastrophes as Littleton CO, as there has been a Federal law against possession of firearms within 1500 feet of a school for many years. California already requires a 15 day waiting period for handguns which requires the passage of a written firearm safety test and has for years.

There already exist both civil and criminal procedures and sanctions against firearms manufacturers, dealers, etc who provide arms that are defective in manufacture, materials, or design.

3. The current governmental attempt at "firearm safety" will be ineffective in its stated purpose.  It will simply hassle lawful firearms owners and cause the prices of firearms to rise to the point that low income folks cannot have that protection. The cops can't be everywhere. Study after study shows that firearms are used from 800,000 to two million times per year to thwart crime. Many cases are resolved by simply letting the bad guys know of the presence of an armed potential victim. In roughly 400,000 of these cases, the potential victim feared for his/her life. (Do we really need 400,000 MORE murders?). Where concealed carry permits have been issued easily, the crime rate has dropped disproportionately. Bad guys go into other work if they think they might get shot.

4. Liberals and other folks who want just government (with "just" as an adverb) want "gun safety" as it is currently being spun.  Gradually disarming all potential victims.

5. Gun safety as currently spun protects no one.  I can cite numerous cases where restrictions have cost lives. Most notable where a panicky former spouse or girlfriend whose EX threatens her in spite of court orders, and she is prevented from obtaining a gun against this immediate threat by a waiting period.

6. "Gun safety" as currently spun protects nobody. People in areas with disproportionate crime rates will suffer the most. The bad guys already HAVE their guns. Even if unarmed, they will prey on those who are helpless. You do the demographics.

7. There is no single law. The laws get stiffened each time there is a gun related catastrophe. Politicians can pass more useless laws, because it makes them look good. Their laws don't do any good. The Littleton guys broke literally 100's of federal and local laws. Not to mention the law against murder. As does pretty much every other murderer.

As to trigger locks: they are ineffective and provide a false sense of security. They will also cause more victim death because the bad guys will be blazing away while the good guy is still fumbling with his key or combination. Also a trigger locked gun can often still fire if mishandled.  In Modesto, a teenaged girl watched a madman skewer several of her siblings with a pitchfork, while she fumbled with a trigger lock on the family pistol.

The "smart gun" technology does not exist.  Do you like how often "Windows" hangs up on your computer. Would you trust your life to it?

Hope this helps.

Estate Tax Fight Loses Steam:

February 19, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

In their headlong rush to try to make something stick to Bill Clinton, the Congress has allowed the issue of the estate tax to wither on the vine.  They can call a committee on a day's notice to investigate the stinking pardons, but they cannot act on ending taxes.

The fact remains that the issue of the estate tax is one of FREEDOM.  The present government says that taxpayers will dispose of their accumulated wealth in a way that the Feds deem "deductible," or they will take 55% of it.  The most ludicrous of the recent developments is that an enormous number of the super rich are running ads supporting the estate tax.  They, of course, have the capability of avoiding virtually all tax as it is.  None that I know of have made no estate planning arrangements to avoid their own estate tax.

They, like us, should be free to dispose of their wealth as they see fit.  If they urge a 55% tax on estates, nothing prevents them from making such arrangements.  They could even do it now, if they like!  A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon there would be no national debt.  Hop to it!

I have no problem with the estate tax, as long as there is some mechanism established to ensure that corporations, foundations, and other "non-natural" persons die and are subject to the same tax that natural persons are.

In the mean time it is an issue of freedom. To dispose of one's accumulated wealth as one sees fit should be unencumbered by the government. This goes for gifts as well as inheritances.

DEAR MR. BUSH:

February 7, 2001, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston.

By George!  You won the election!  Of course the Democrats don't think so, but you are the President of the United States of America.  Your efforts to unite the country and eliminate "partisan bickering" by going into the Democrat lions den are laudable.  Just don't forget that the Democrats will jump on every opportunity to bash your brains out.

You can eliminate the "AIDS CZAR."  Just don't announce it.  It makes you a lightning rod.  Just take your time appointing the person.  Shove it aside and do the important things  first.  Remember that it wasn't the homosexual activists that voted for and supported you.

Remember, too, that the specter of William Jefferson Blythe Clinton will be in your rear view mirror constantly.  It is clear that Billary is still the head honcho in the Democrat party.

There is one more thing to remember.  The people who voted for you and supported you did not want you in to see that "faith based" religious right organizations gat more Federal tax monies.  They voted for you and supported you so that secular left organizations would get less and that all the left wing pressure groups who are merely parasites at the Federal trough while being campaign arms of the radical left Democrats toe the line and obey the rules of their tax exempt status.

GORE'S STALLING:

IS THERE MORE HOPE?

November 29, 2000, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Electors are required to vote for at least one who is not a resident of the same state as the elector. Are not BOTH Cheney and Bush Texans?

Amendment Twelve to the United States Constitution states, "The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and the vote by ballot for President and Vice President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves...."

It would seem that when the Electors from Texas are not allowed to vote for BOTH Bush and Cheney, we will wind up with a Bush Lieberman ticket.  That might not be too bad, because Lieberman will be out of the Senate count for the votes, so his tie breaking vote will not come up.

We're saved!  Cheney moved to Wyoming before the deadline.

BUSH WINS! (NOT YET)

November 8, 2000, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

Thanks to Gore's large margins in big states, it looks like it is the first time since 1888 when the popular vote will go to Gore while the electoral college goes for Bush. That is our kind of Gerrymander. Segregate all the liberals in a few states. Let them win there by overwhelming margins.  If there is a tie in the Electoral College, the election goes to the House with one vote from each delegation.  Bush wins there by something like thirty to twenty.

Right now the outcome is still up in the air. It all hinges on the outcome in Florida.  Florida flip-flopped twice last night. It is much too close to call. CBS called it for Gore early on and had to recant. They then called it for Bush. They recanted again. It was nearly 4:00 AM in the east and Dan Rather said that some were choking on the shattered glass from their crystal ball.  The Florida recount will determine President. We may not know the result for days.

The folks who know Al and Bill best, the voters from Arkansas and Tennessee, decided to throw the rascals out.  Sweet.  In all, Bush won many states that went Democrat last time.  Gore didn't win any new ones.

There is some really bad news.  We are not rid of Billary. She is a New York Senator. (Pardon me while I gag, choke, and barf).  The carpetbagger charge was not enough.  She won handily against the Republican second string.

Many of the impeachment personalities went down in very tight races after Democrat money went after them big time.  Rogan was most notable among these.

In California, provisions went mostly my way, except that it now requires 55% to pass a school bond.  A darling of the liberal media will win. That is why campaign finance reform is suicide for conservatives.

Ralph Nader was a substantial difference. There were several green states where Nader voters would have swung it to Gore. If Bush pulls it out, we can all thank Ralph.

Buchanan was not even a blip on the radar. He did run some good ads. "There is a war for the heart and soul of America. George Washington's name is being taken off our schools. The Boy Scouts are labeled a hate group. Christmas and Easter are gone from the public square to be replaced by Earth Day. There is no Columbus Day parade in Denver because Columbus was an evil European. Al Gore is on the wrong side, and George Bush won't fight!" Great stuff!  Buchanan is a great speech writer.

The Reform party was all Perot. No Perot, no go for Reform.  They had 12 million of taxpayer money with which to antagonize both of the major parties.  They did.  A coalition of disenfranchised radical rightists and radical leftists will never prevail.

Libertarians were a no-show.  They got no press, which is understandable. The natural place for libertarians is with the Republicans.

One "Green" got elected. Big deal. Greens are just another ultra-left socialist splinter group. However, the presence of Greens may make it tougher for liberal Democrats to be elected in the future and delay somewhat the inevitable march to socialism.

It may be that we have not yet reached the point of critical mass where those who are drawing government checks are enough to swing the vote to socialism. Once the USA reaches that point, the USA will begin a long slide to collapse ala the USSR. It hasn't yet happened because the USA has a lot more wealth for the socialists to squander to bring the system down.

LA Times headline says Gore-Bush are neck in neck. CBS showed the full page headline on Murdock's NY paper "BUSH WINS!" That, of course may still be true.

Republicans maintain majority in House. They may have a tie in Senate due to close race in Washington.

The dead man in Missouri won. Ashcroft is out, and the widow will be appointed.

In general, the liberals were not pleased. WHAT KEPT IT FROM BEING "THE ECONOMY, STUPID?" Only the Clinton sleaze.  If Gore had the guts to turn on Clinton for the impeachment, he would be President now, and he would have won 2000 in a landslide.

PRESIDENT SETS PRECEDENT

October 17, 2000, Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

In a move which many of us expected, President Clinton’s lying under oath (for which he was impeached and fined $300,000) has become as issue in another court. A Federal judge in New Mexico has cited Clinton’s treatment as the basis for leniency in a perjury case.

Don’t get me wrong. I had the weird idea that truth was important to the functioning of our judicial system. It is important that litigants and witnesses tell the truth. It is also important that there be sanctions imposed when someone lies. If you cannot force the truth out of people, what good is a subpoena?

"Mr. Ford, do you have any data on the danger of Pinto gas tanks?"

"No."

"Mr. Morris, do you think that cigarettes are addictive."

"No."

"Mr. Bridgestone, do you have any data on the danger of your Firestone steel belted radials?"

"No."

"Mr. Clinton, did you have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky?"

"No."

In my line of work as a safety engineer and expert witness in accident causation, truth is important. It is my stock in trade. That is only one reason why I obtained a libel and slander damage award of nearly $500,000 when I was falsely accused of lying. Truth is why I must sometimes give my clients bad news about a case.

Without truth, our system of law and justice will fold.

Chief U.S. District Judge James A. Parker told prosecutors last week that it was unfair of them to ask for a strict prison sentence in a New Mexico perjury case, pointing out that President Clinton recently asked for leniency for lying under oath.

FELONS GET GUNS IN TEXAS

Los Angeles 10/03/2000    Jay W. Preston

Yer dern tootin'!

It is certainly funny that on the day of the great debate between the two midgets running for President for the major parties, the L.A. Times runs with this two full columns about the Texas Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) law on the front page.

For those who missed them, one headline read: "Felons Get Concealed Gun Licenses Under Bush's 'Tough' Law."  The other reads, "How One Texan Got a License, Then Killed 2."  Two columns on the front page above the fold.  At least Bush knows what to talk about tonight.

Hope springs eternal.  Will Bush show some guts?  Maybe the debate will play out like this:

Gore: "Gov. Bush, isn't it true that under your tough CCW laws, hundreds of felons have been able to get these permits?"

Bush: "That's right, Mr. Gore, and it shows a number of things. First, gun laws are not perfect and will fail to stop a criminal. Felons will lie, cheat, and steal to get guns. Government bureaucrats and administrative systems can screw up. Yet you want to put more and more of our lives, including healthcare, in the hands of these same government bureaucrats."

Bush: "Do you have any data on how many of these hundreds of felons, who got permits, were carrying concealed weapons without the permits? I think it is reasonable to assume that the murderer who has been publicized would be carrying, permit or not.   After all, he is reported to carry TWO guns."

Bush: "I have instructed the board to tighten the screening process to assure compliance with the law and discipline those government officials who allowed the felons to get permits. If there are any patterns of error, those government workers should be fired."

Bush: "Naturally, I have directed the Attorney General to study and prosecute these cases.  Unlike the recent Federal Government under you and Mr. Clinton, prosecutions for gun crimes in Texas have increased under my leadership.  In Texas we execute murderer violators of gun laws."

WILL or CAN Bush do something like this?  Probably not.  He will want to get along with the liberals.

BUREAUC-RAT AD UPSETS DEMOCRATS

Los Angeles, 08/12/2000--Jay W. Preston

The George Bush campaign, in a clever attempt to differentiate the Bush Prescription Drug Plan from the Gore Prescription Drug Plan, puts together an ad where the word "bureaucrat" resolves into the word "rat."  The Demo-rats jump on it screaming "foul."  For the party of business, you would think that the Republicans would have some good ad-men on their side.  They have a tough sell.   They are trying to sell their man by saying that their man will give everybody almost as much as Gore will.

Don't the professional Republicans realize that the change that Reagan wrought was a clear conservative, almost libertarian, message.  Only then and when the Congressional aspirants picked up the "Contract with America," did the Republicans triumph.  Like it or not, Bush is not a good candidate.  He always looks like he is whining.  He is the same kind of guy as his dad.  He won't go to the mat against the liberals and socialists.  He would rather get along.  He is not a conservative.

I must point out that Collin Powell is the same as Bush.  The only difference is that Powell is electible.  Powell would have been a shoo in against Clinton and saved us from all the Clinton nightmare.  Powell would be a shoo-in against Gore, as well.   Powell is a liberal Republican, and the people love him.

The Congressional Republicans in '94 brought the Contract With America to the table.   They brought all ten items to the floor of the house.  Eight of the ten actually passed.  They rode in with an unprecedented landslide overthrow of the Democrat status quo.

Bush's message should be, "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own prescriptions." "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own private school tuition." "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own retirement programs." "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own medical care." "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own transportation." "Republicans want tax change to allow you to keep what you earn. Then you will be able to afford your own housing."

REPUBLICAN LOVE-FEST CONTINUES

Los Angeles, 08/02/2000--Jay W. Preston

The third night of the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia went on with all speaking vying for title of who could most sound like a Democrat.  We are still waiting for the Republican with enough guts to say, "Much of what has been said here is NONE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S BUSINESS."

On virtually every front, the answer is more federal government and more federal power and the Constitution be damned.  Who will acknowledge that asset seizure laws are unconstitutional because they impose unreasonable and excessive fines and take property for public use without just compensation and due process?  Who will say that court imposed prohibitions of prayer in all sorts of venues are more a prohibition of free exercise of religion than an establishment of one?  Who will say that the Federal Reserve System is a usurpation of Congress' authority to coin money and regulate the value thereof?  Who will say that the EOC's prohibitions of free speech are similarly unconstitutional?

McCain continues to be a hero among the press for his stand on "campaign finance reform" when it is merely a liberal press smokescreen to so hobble Republican fundraising, so that the only news and campaign information has the liberal slant preferred by the mainstream media.

Who gets the media hype?  Not the Libertarian candidate.  Harry Browne has the only dissenting opinion on the growth of the government and the power of the state.   Ralph Nader gets a lot of press because he is the left wing statist technocrat candidate that is so cozy for the liberal press.  Perot got lots of coverage, too.   He appealed to the anti-government ground swell that would have ensured defections from the Republicans and ensured the election of Bill (by Hillary, whose politics are more in keeping with those of the main stream press).

L.A.U.S.D. GOES TO LOONY BIN

Los Angeles 6/27/2000--

In a stunning and courageous move, the Los Angeles School Board is pushing to remove rifles from the Junior ROTC in several high schools.  The rationale is that use of the guns, whether operational or dummy violates the "no tolerance" of weapons doctrine in force on campuses.  The doctrine prohibits even toy weapons, so why should the ROTC be exempt?

This Board that spent well over $250,000,000 to build a new "Learning Center" that was known to be unusable due to being contaminated by old oilfield residue now wants to disarm the ROTC.  This, I think, makes the Board certifiable.  They should be sent to Camarillo, except that that State Hospital exists no longer and the inmates are rampant among us.  This is the same Board that allows roofs to leak until the whole structure of the roof needs to be replaced.  This is the same Board that uses 1950 vintage textbooks if they have any in the school rooms at all.

This looks like the same liberal drivel we are often exposed to.  Guns in the hands of street thugs are the same as rifles in the hands of ROTC cadets.  Go figure.   Do you suppose the campus narks will be disarmed?

I was in ROTC at Pasadena High School in the sixties.  I was on the flag detail that lowered "Old Glory" to half mast for President Kennedy.  We were armed to the teeth.  The drill team had the usual 0-3 Springfields in chrome and regular versions.  The rifle team had .22 competition rifles.  The rest of us were fully armed as a W.W.II or Korean War infantry battalion.  Each of us was issued an M-1 Garand rifle.  Each of the company officers had M-1 Carbines.  Battalion officers and staff carried .45 automatic pistols.  We had a good number of Browning Automatic Rifles (B.A.R.) and even several .30 caliber Light Machine Guns (LMG) to fill out the heavier weapons of the properly equipped rifle companies along with rifle grenade launchers.  And, heavens, there was a rifle range in the basement!  They took us to Fort Irwin to shoot the .45 grease guns and M-48 tanks!  No freaks ever shot up the school.

A recent study has shown that where kids have been instructed in respect for and safe use of guns, their rate of criminal use of guns is virtually nil. -- Jay W. Preston

LAWYERS SALIVATE OVER KABC FLAMBÉ

Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

High voltage burns are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to treat. Ms. Alpert clings to life, but her extremities are being amputated. It may be that her internal organs were cooked to some degree as well. I have seen these things before. Until she leaves the hospital, she remains in grave to fatal danger.

A web search found Sig-Alarm, (sig-alarm in the search engine) and I picked up the latest sales data on the equipment. There is a manufacturer of remote trucks that was found under that heading (BAT) as distributor for device. Also check out sigalarminc.com

The Sig-Alarm device has been in use for nearly 30 years. I first came across them at one of our safety conventions when I was at Liberty (1969-71) I think.

We are all familiar with how an AM radio buzzes when near a high voltage power line. The Sig-Alarm detects that electro-magnetic field and signals the alarm and/or prevents movement of the equipment close to the source. In some cases, the Sig-Alarm can be rigged to retract the equipment when its antenna gets too close to a powerline.

One drawback for crane operations is that the antenna is mounted on the boom, and crane contacts frequently involve cable contact, rather than boom contact. Such a drawback does not exist on antenna towers. They go straight up and have no dangling elements. Another drawback is that my understanding is that Sig-Alarm will not detect direct current lines. This is a very remote situation except when working near transit projects where traction power is often 600 VDC and under rare transmission lines (like Pacific Intertie).

If the KABC-TV truck had sig-alarm, it was not working or was ignored. If it did not, it was dangerously defective. Also, the remote truck did not have way to watch the progress of the tower elevation.

Many operational errors were present. They parked on sidewalk. The sidewalk tilted toward the utility easement. The powerline may have been too low. The was a lack of warning and a likely lapse in training. The camera tech was not used as a spotter. There are lots of factors involved.

There were two other injuries to the camera tech and a police officer.

This could be a good high profile case. Just the publicity could be worth a bundle to a lawyer. (Visions of Erin Brockovich).

The medical expenses for Ms. Alpert alone will be absolutely HUGE.

COMMON DEVICE PREVENTS KABC ELECTROCUTION

Los Angeles, Jay W. Preston

The tragic accident of May 22, 2000 to the crew and equipment of the KABC News remote van serves to emphasize the dangers associated with elevating equipment and power line contacts. Cranes, elevating manlifts, bucket manlifts, fire department snorkels, extension ladders, and similar equipment capable of elevating above twenty feet can expose operators and bystanders to electrocution danger.

The National Electric Code and other recognized bodies of electrical safety rules and regulations allow power lines to be as close to the ground as 20 feet. This is why any nearly any elevating equipment may come in contact with it.

The operator must be able to watch as the equipment is elevated. Most news remote units do not have such a capability. Research has shown that even crane operators with a clear view of their operating envelope have great difficulty in determining the height of power lines and require spotters. This is largely due to power lines being linear in nature and nearly impossible to visually judge for depth.

There is at least one device on the market that can solve the problem. It is the "Sig-Alarm." It consists of a package of an antenna and the electronics necessary to detect the electric field around a power line and sound an alarm before proximity or contact. Such a device would have prevented the KABC incident and the injury to the crew.

A broadcasting remote truck without such a device (Sig-Alarm or equivalent) constitutes a dangerous condition likely to cause serious injury or death. Such a vehicle is defective.

Anyone injured in an accident like that of KABC should get in touch with a good product liability attorney. They would have a VERY good case against the manufacturer or supplier of the equipment.

For information on the "Sig-Alarm" device check out www.sigalarminc.com

Self Defense As Natural Law

Among the wonders of nature, beasts of all kinds are endowed by their Creator with certain facilities of life.  Among these are means of protection, sustenance, and protection.  Where an organism perceives itself in need of further facility, it is free to obtain more.

Hermit crabs are free to obtain the hard shells which they naturally lack.

Birds have wings for flight, but pick up and drop things to improve their mechanical food gathering capability.  They also construct nests to improve the safety and protection of their young.

Many animals have teeth and claws for food gathering and processing as well as defense, but they will often resort to den digging and cave inhabiting.

Man has no wings for flight.  He proceeds to obtain them.

Man has no hard shell or heavy fur for protection.  He proceeds to obtain them.   He calls them clothing and housing.

Man has hardly teeth and claws for defense.  He proceeds to obtain them.  He calls them weapons. Edge weapons, striking weapons, projectile weapons, explosives.

We hold this truth to be self evident, that man has an inalienable right to arm himself for defense against predators and any one or any thing that may use force against him.

Million Mom March Dangerous To Women And Kids
by Liz Michael

Released May 13, 2000 for immediate release
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm going to come right out and say this. I can't mince words any longer.
The so-called "Million Mom March" represents a clear and present danger to every woman in this nation, especially every teenage girl in this nation. Every woman participating in this march is participating in an act that may very well lead to her own death, assault, or rape, as well as the death, assault or rape of any woman or young girl in her family. Every individual participating in this march or financing this march is effectively sponsoring a future criminal assault on me and people I love, and I hold them as responsible as the criminal himself.
I know what you're going to say: "Liz, isn't that a bit strong? Can't intelligent people agree to disagree?"
No, not on this. I'm tired of trying to make peace with these people. I'm tired of having to defend my right to protect myself and my family. Tired of protecting my right not to be raped. Not to be murdered. Not to be a victim.
I usually approach the subject of the Second Amendment with the approach for which I believe it was designed: namely that the Second Amendment was designed to keep various arms in private hands to insure against the establishment of a tyrannical government. I'm gonna not talk about that: for now. The Jewish Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide notwithstanding.
I'm gonna frame the firearms issue strictly in terms of one factor. Natural law.
First of all, let's establish one premise. A person under attack from an assailant has an inherent human right to defend themselves from that attack by any means necessary. I think most of us, in our hearts, believe that. If you do not believe that, you're already a stupid idiot. YES! YOU! STUPID! I said it. I meant it. Deal with it.
Second. That right is natural and inherent. It is a right that any creature on this earth has by nature of their creation. Look at mammals, birds, insects, you name it. The vast majority of them are vested by a survival instinct to automatically repel any attempt to harm them, to prevent it, to hide from it. They are also given, in addition to their natural characteristics for self-defense, a brain, to devise ways of protecting themselves from attack, sheltering themselves from attack, and so forth.
Third, this right and instinct extends to THEIR FAMILY. Look at almost any animal species, and you will always see vigorous attempts by mothers, and often even fathers, to protect their young. But it's not just blood relatives. That instinct toward self-protection also extends to the pack, the pride, the colony. Even if members of the colony really aren't related.
Fourth, the right and instinct also extends TO THEIR PROPERTY. You see this in the wild. You even see it among pets. It's why dogs make such good guards. They instinctively protect the turf. And not just real property, but THINGS also.
I had to lay all that out. Because I think everyone who deludes themselves into thinking they are civilized, or live in a civilized society, ties themselves to the bizarre concept, that all society's problems can be solved if only they can pass some STUPID LITTLE LAW.
The criminal, though, like the predator in the jungle, is under no such delusion. The criminal determines exactly what he wants, what his soul craves, and he goes after it. Sometimes the law does dissuade him. But the more vicious and demented he is, or the greedier he is, the less likely any stupid little law will deter him.
So into this eternal battle between criminal and citizen, come these individuals. They say that "we all will be safer if we all submit ourselves to restraints upon when and how we are allowed to defend ourselves, and we must get government approval to defend ourselves, and only defend ourselves in the way the government states we can. And we don't want any defense methods to be transferable from one person to another. And kids shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves."
Of course, they don't say it THAT way. They say "we want government registration of handguns." "We demand trigger locks be sold with every gun." "We want every gun owner to be licensed by the government." "We want to compel smart guns." "We want a Juvenile Brady bill."
Gun control isn't just unconstitutional. Gun control isn't just a bad idea.
Gun control is unnatural. It is against nature. People don't act like that. No creature on earth acts like that. Regardless of your religious belief, regardless of whether you think we have a soul or spirit or not, you must concede that however we came to be here, and whatever else we are, we are in animal form, and we have animal instincts, and one of those animal instincts is the instinct, the duty, to protect ourselves, our family, our friends and neighbors, and our property from harm. And we would not have flourished as a species without that natural instinct.
Now some of these "Million Mugger-enabling Meddlers" will ask me "Liz, do you want your six year old girl to handle firearms? Your sixteen year old boy? Aren't you afraid of having a gun in your house because of that?"
I'll be frank with you. Given the penchant for child molesters and child rapists, I frankly would get my kids to a shooting range at early an age as possible so that they may familiarize themselves with that means of self-defense, as well as familiarizing them with other self-defense methods. I frankly would rather my child have a piece concealed and know how to use it in today's world. I would probably give him one. I probably wouldn't let him go to a public school where he couldn't carry it.
Which brings me to the point. The "Million Mugger-enabling Meddlers" would have my full support if they were, like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, demanding stiffer criminal penalties for physical assaults against children.
But the "Million Mom March" is doing the opposite. They aren't trying to make it safe for my kid to walk the street. They're actually setting up situations where my family might be rendered defenseless against these same thugs. How so?
Everything they propose.... EVERYTHING.... is aimed against me protecting myself and my family protecting itself, not for it. Forget the damned Constitution for a second. Forget the damned country for a second. A waiting period denies me for the length of the waiting period my access to self -defense and defense of my family. Permit and licensing requirements do the same thing: delay and prevent my natural instinct for self-defense. Age requirements: same thing. Saying a teenage girl is legally prohibited from carrying a firearm is like giving a child snatcher free license at her.
What about trigger locks, Liz? Surely you can't be against mandating trigger locks? But it's the same thing. A trigger lock places an assailee at a distinct disadvantage. Crimes don't happen in days. They happen in seconds. Suddenly. Every second is precious in a self-defense and a trigger lock costs precious seconds and might disable the firearm entirely.
But enough of this folderol. Forget how many votes you have or think you need. Forget your interpretation of the Constitution. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL ME HOW I AM TO DEFEND MYSELF OR MY FAMILY. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL MY NEIGHBORHOOD HOW IT IS TO DEFEND ITSELF. None. Nada. Zippo. Zilch. No STUPID LITTLE LAW you pass against us will ever negate that natural God-given right and instinct. Deal with that.
The gun control people, in my opinion, have crossed a line in the sand. This ceased to be a civilized discussion long ago. This is a matter of self-protection. A matter of turf. If you are in favor of restricting the citizen's right to self-defense and defense of her family, then you are on the side of the criminals. Either you believe an individual has a right to defend against an assailant unhampered by stupid little laws, or you are on the side of criminals. And if you believe in using the power of the state to come down on me for protecting myself or my family, then both you and the state that does that are criminals. YES! YOU!
And I'm here to tell you, on behalf of many many Americans with families, that we will have none of it any longer. Million Mom March supporters, what you advocate, if you succeed, will be a prelude to revolution. That is neither a threat nor a promise. That is natural law. We will not take these stupid little laws aimed at us any longer. We will, like a mother lioness defending her turf and her cubs, use any means necessary. Ultimately, whether you want it or not, natural law will assert itself. Deal with it.

Scouts Argue Morality at Supreme Court

On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country,  to help other people at all times, to obey the Scout Law, and to keep myself, physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. That, if memory from 40 years ago serves, is the Scout Oath.  I took that oath.  I believe that oath, and to this day, I try to live my life in accord with it.

The Scout Law is those twelve principles.  A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.  It would seem that homosexual activity is in conflict with at least the "Clean" part.

From where I sit, the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with the Oath and the Law.  Nothing prevents males with homosexual proclivities from joining or participating in Scouting.  However, if they join the Scouts, they must refrain from disobeying the Oath and Law by practicing homosexuality. That's that.  Scoutmasters should adhere to the same standards to set a good example for the boys in their charge.

The fact that Boy Scouts often hold meetings at facilities that are publicly owned should not make a difference about allowing the practice of homosexuality among Scouts.

California is Key Election State

Most in the press acknowledge that California with its huge dividend of electoral votes is the prize that is necessary to win. Gray Davis (with a personality to match his name) is often cited as an expedient choice for Veep. Gore-Davis will give new meaning to "Campaign Stump." With that in mind I submit the following ode to the next election.

Karl Marxism, Here We Come!

Karl Marxism, here we come, right where Lenin started from,

Where workers not shirkers prosper as one,

Where needy get greedy, with lots of stuff for everyone and

Karl Marxism, don’t be late. Death for those we really hate

Lee Trotsky lost moxey with an ice pick

But even some Commies thought a lot of "Tricky Dick," but

It’s Al Gore, but not like Bill. Impeach or bleach him, he’s a pill

He’s arming the Commies, so now they can nuke

The City of Angels, until we all puke.

Karl Marxism, here we come, right where Lenin started from,

Open up that Chinese wall, Karl Marxism, here we come!

Thoughts on the Future

The presidential election race heats up. The choice is one of a Stalinist versus a Statist. Every issue is a Federal one. This is understandable for the reason the de Toqueville wrote of over one hundred years ago. He said that a democracy could only stand until the electorate found it could vote itself largess from the public treasury. This impetus has been given further weight by the edition of women to the voter rolls. Male chauvinist pig that I am, there is a big difference in how men and women look at things. There is much truth in the Mars-Venus dichotomy. Men are involved more by the macro, the big picture, and logic. Women tend to me more moved by the micro, the effects on each individual, and by emotion. It is clear that emotion now rules political debate in this country.

We see the attempts to appeal to emotion constantly. Democrats are masters of it. There is a parade of victims to testify about how some Federal government program can solve their problems. Nobody ever has the guts to say, "This is no business of the Federal government." Nobody ever has the guts to say, "What you propose will not work, so why do it." The only argument is over how much to spend. Therefore the Federal government becomes more and more powerful. The desire to do something, anything, overrules the choice to do nothing nearly every time.

A few more reasons: There are more tenants than landlords. There are more workers than capitalists. There are more who perceive themselves recipients of Federal largess than those who perceive themselves as suppliers of that largess. These days there are more non-smokers than smokers, and (GASP) more non gun owners than gun owners.

The only possible result is that which visited itself on Russia in the last century. It will take longer in America because there is a greater hoard of wealth for the socialists to squander to make the good old USA a Socialist Paradise and ensure its economic collapse. It could take a century or more. But it is inevitable. Remember Clinton’s budget. The final pages said that an effective tax rate of 85% percent would be required to pay for it all. Such a tax will not pass, so the funding will be from money created out of thin air. That, dear friends, will be the looming disaster.

I.N.S. Snatches Elian

In a daring nighttime raid  battle-ready Immigration and Naturalization Service agents entered the Gonzalez home in Miami and snatched the young illegal Elian.  This was done without a warrant.  In spite of the Constitutional guarantees of "no warrantless searches and seizures," the I.N.S. has been one entity in the Federal government that has been authorized by Congress to operate without the formality of warrants.

It is interesting that when trying to please a Communist dictator, Janet Reno's Justice Department can operate with superb efficiency.  The raid was pulled off without killing and burning everybody in sight.  Maybe that's the point.  When achieving Communist aims, our Clinton-led government can operate flawlessly.

Our congratulations to Ms. Reno and the I.N.S.  May you be as diligent and successful in your apprehension and deportation of the other 19,999,999 illegal aliens in our midst.  Could it be that the Communist dictators don't want these people back.

Jehovah's Witnesses Gather

Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide will be commemorating the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ tonight.  They will gather together as Jesus and his disciples did in that upper room on the night of the full moon closest to the vernal equinox (Nisan 14).  They will pass unleavened bread and pure wine as Jesus did.  They will do this is response to his command, "Do this in remembrance of me."

Quotes of the day

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that
ye were our countrymen. -- Samuel Adams

Drink up! -- Samuel Adams Company, Inc.

One More Elian Story

Everybody is weighing in on the story of the illegal Elian.  One thing is certain: The guiding principle behind all of Clinton Administration foreign policy is that if a judgment call is necessary it will go to the Communists.  Further it seems that where Communist interests collide, it will lean toward the Chinese side.  We have seen this in situations as diverse as Kosovo and the Elian case.

America must be a beacon of  freedom to the world.  Attempts should be made to settle the whole Gonzales family in America.  Nothing else is right.

How do the Communists view it?  That's Clinton's view, too.

G.W. Bush Abandons California Voters

George Bush, in a stirring repudiation of another of his natural core constituencies came out against California's Proposition 187. This was the one that refused welfare payments, free state education, and other government benefits to illegal aliens. It also required illegals to be reported to the INS. Prop. 187 passed with nearly 60% of the popular vote. Even the Latino community supported it to the tune of nearly 40%. Although the MALDEF-type (Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund) radicals can't seem to understand the opinions of hardworking Chicano families who have strong extended families and resent those who sneak across the border and get all the benefits of America without pledging allegiance to the United States of America, make a commitment to learn English and American History, and jump through innumerable hoops to obtain legal status.

Believe it or not, the Chicanos I meet and talk to don't want an endless supply of illegal aliens crossing the border. They view this flood as undercutting wages and overwhelming government services while avoiding most taxes by shipping the money back home.

George Bush apparently wants to side with Maxine Waters, Al Gore, Jerry Brown and other notorious liberals in order to "just get along" with the California leftists and please newspapers that have become propaganda rags for socialism and sodomy. Bush needs to listen more to Rush Limbaugh and less to the advisors who lost his daddy re-election.

Clinton Tops Gore List for Supreme Court Chief Justice

In a stunning move likely to please vast numbers of the American People, Vice President Al Gore III announced that his top choice for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is William Jefferson Blythe "Bill" Clinton. This superceded an erroneous early report that his choice was Hillary Rodham Clinton. In a news conference, Mr. Gore said, "Bill Clinton has shown by his capable leadership, high standards of integrity, respect for the law, adherence to the Constitution, reverence for duty in times of war, exemplary studiousness, and forthright honesty, that he is the best available candidate to replace Chief Justice Scalia.

Mr. Gore said that he expects to appoint Mr. Clinton to the bench as soon as Constitutionally possible. He denied that Mr. Clinton will kill Chief Justice Scalia to end Scalia's life term. Gore said, "While there is no governing authority, the Constitution, by assigning justices to life terms, clearly establishes a Constitutional right to kill them."

Mr. Gore, in a question and answer session, privately stated that the Clinton appointment would facilitate the merger of the United States with the Peoples' Republic of China. He sees no problem with extending the "One nation, two systems" program that has worked so well with Hong Kong, to places like Los Angeles.  Mr. Clinton was unavailable for comment because he was secreted in the White House Presidential Liebrary.

Smith & Wesson Folds to Fed Extortion

Smith & Wesson has agreed to Federal Government demands to equip their guns with child safety locks and the so-called "smart" technology.  The "smart" technology is a highly complicated and sophisticated (and expensive) system by which only the "owner" of the weapon may fire it.  There have been some demonstration prototypes of this type of device.  Non has yet been shown to be practical or affordable to those who stand to benefit most from guns, the working poor.

One wonders if there will be included a V-chip device so that the guns can be turned off at the behest of the Feds.

We can all be assured that we will be safe from crazed six-year-olds whose felonious relatives leave their stolen weapons accessible to minors.

On another note:  How could those two murdering scum have gotten those shotguns and semi-automatic hand guns into their school in Littleton.  Didn't they know that it is a Federal crime to have a gun within 1500 feet of a school?

Jay Preston.

Bush Blows Election: Blows off NRA

George W.Bush apparently is a George Herbert Walker Bush clone. A bureaucrat "just trying to get along" with everybody. Instead of siding with the National Rifle Association, publicizing the gun-garbage from Clinton and putting the anti-gun debate on the table with his "bully pulpit," he cowers away in some corner somewhere.   When Wayne LaPierre of the NRA chided Clinton for making guns a political issue and stating the obvious that Clinton requires a certain level of gun violence in order to pass his anti-gun agenda, Bush was quick to "distance himself" from the fray.   That same ploy with the "no new taxes" fiasco is what cost his father the election and gave us eight years of Clinton.

Maybe that's the ticket. Elect ALL the Democrats. Then the entire Federal government will collapse, snarled in red tape, into a puddle of red ink that will snuff out the torch of freedom once and for all. What will replace it?  A Marxist police state would suit Leftist Democrats just fine.

After the stunning Republican victory of 1994, Republican Party stalwarts sat on their hands in 1996.  Dole was even more of a mealy-mouthed wimp than Bush.  They sat on their hands because their anointed leader refused to join the fight.

3/13/00: Bush blows election when he blows off the NRA. Mark my words.

Jay Preston.
